Too bad most shit still only uses 1 or 2 cores, and since you're clocked at 2.3ghz you'll actually get worse performance in any single core application than most of us.

Xeons have a better IPC than normal processors.

Processors are almost always waiting for I/O. Instruction execution speed has not mattered for nearly a decade. Memory access speed has been the limiting factor for a long time.

With their larger cache, Xeons should perform better in most applications.

You mean it brickwalled a decade ago. Because of this we often have worse ui responsiveness than back then.

2.3 Ghz is 2.3 GHz....

At some point you run out of steam.

Kek, my i3-4170 @ 3.7 Ghz would be faster in single threaded apps.

Server CPUs are for Server situations bro. Kinda like having loads of torque but no horse power. You can get to the top speed fast as hell but cant accelerate past a given point.

you don't buy a high-end xeon to play gaymes or run ancient shitty single/two-threaded applications, you buy a xeon for workstation/server applications like virtualization and media creation

OP is using an ES anyway meaning he probably bought it for a song

It's just a screenshot from the LTT video of that processor.

That sort of logic applied a decade ago when chip designers were trying to get more cycles per second. Now chip designers have been focusing on more instructions per cycle.

If you can execute (on average) 7 instructions per cycle at 2.3 GHz, you will certainly beat something executing 3 instructions per cycle at 3.7 GHz.

Not to mention most of the time the processor is waiting on the MMU anyways, even in single threaded applications. A processor with more cache and faster memory will be able to wait less often.

These aren't new developments.
