Why isn't there a single linux DE that works well with higher DPI displays?

Gnome 3 comes closest and literally it supports is 200% scaling and nothing else.

On OS X I can emulate the look of various resolutions (1920x1080, 2560x1440, 3072x1728, 3840x2160, etc.) and the UI will scale to higher resolution assets so the visual quality is identical, but the content is larger. Windows has scaling in 25% increments that works similarly.

Linux isn't meant to be used on the desktop.

Not the answer I was looking for but I can't argue with the truth of it.

wut

For Gnome3:
install dconf-tools

dconf-tools -> org -> gnome > desktop > interface > text scaling factor

For XFCE:
Setting Manager -> Appearance -> Fonts -> DPI

Many GTK and Qt GUI applications are still broken with high PPI

Wayland could solve it more easily by automatically scaling legacy applications but there's nothing for X11

That scales fonts only retard. The dots on i's end up bigger than your microscopic taskbar icons.

Scaling fonts and scaling the actual UI are not the same thing.

Built my own desktop using a tiling wm and lemonbar.

Works great on a 4k laptop.

Maybe you should just git gud or go back to propietary plebshit, anon.
