It's not a meme, I did tests on why my chrome took so long to open sometimes and it was a hard drive bottleneck. Now with an ssd everything is instant. Also boot times are very fast, no more going to the bathroom during reboots.

Working in GIMP is much faster when crunching huge raw files.
Work flow is SD card>SSD, review, dump trash to HDDs, work the raws. Save edits and good raws to my NAD. Getting a small SSD sped up my workflow.

SSD's are great for gaming. I have Stalker Call of Pripyat with Misery Mod on my dedicated gaming SSD and it runs without a hitch, where as on HDD it would pause and microload constantly.
It's pretty much the only way to play the newer Battlefield games without raging too. Load times are reduced 90%.
