Firefox Sync fails to meet a fundamental criteria to be labelled a 'botnet', which is that you *chose* to agree to use this service (therefore with your consent).

That depends. By default it's stored on the Mozilla servers, but you can also host it yourself like this anon >>52364517 pointed out.

In the literal sense? No.
By /g/ standards? Yes.
I don't personally believe Mozilla have any malicious intent, but they could still be hacked or whatever. You should probably look into an alternative that syncs using your own server instead if you value your privacy a lot.
