Anti bait thread
I'm curious about Firefox Sync
Who host the data of sync?
Does it have access?
Is it encrypted for the server side?

Pic unrelated

>Is X botnet?
A botnet is a client/server model with malicious intent. Clients are infected, typically without consent of the owner or him being aware thereof, which are called zombies and in turn infect other machines while awaiting commands from and sending (private) information to the command and control server.

Firefox Sync fails to meet a fundamental criteria to be labelled a 'botnet', which is that you *chose* to agree to use this service (therefore with your consent).

This meme has been going on for far too long now and it's time you computer illiterate kids learn what a botnet actually is. RTFM https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Botnet

>Who hosts the data?
That depends. By default it's stored on the Mozilla servers, but you can also host it yourself like this anon >>52364517 pointed out.

>Does it have access? Is it encrypted server side?
Of course Mozilla has access to your data, but they're not able to decrypt it since it's encrypted client side. https://wiki.mozilla.org/Labs/Weave/Developer/FAQ#How_do_users_know_their_data_is_secure.3F

Hardly.

I'll take that as an "I've been here all summer."

In the literal sense? No.
By /g/ standards? Yes.

I don't personally believe Mozilla have any malicious intent, but they could still be hacked or whatever. You should probably look into an alternative that syncs using your own server instead if you value your privacy a lot.

You take it as you will. I will agree with you that last summer has been, maddening, to say the least.

Not sure if this is bait, but I'll take this as a legit answer, thank you very much anon kun
