What sort of processor should I get to best aid my 1080P gaming needs? What matters more in a processor, cores or ghz? Best budget gaming processor? I'm aware that video card matters more than processor, it's just that i have a crappy dual core that no longer works well to aid my gaming.

You could grab an old amd quadcore x4 for like 50
That would be an update
>>52352156
Intel Pentium G3258
start off by telling us your budget, current cpu, current mobo
>>52352184
i had that, whenever i tried to play games it bottlenecked everything
>>52352206
>3258
>dual core
>gaming
>2016
hahahahahahahahahah
no
>>52352230
what gpu were you using
OP here. Current CPU: AMD a4 5300 3.4 ghz.
Budget: 170-190 US dollars
Graphics Card:Nvidia GTX 960
Games I want to play:witcher 3, crysis 3, fallout 4, possible some newer games.
Games keep freezing, told because of processor and not gpu.
>>52352243
>believing you need more than one core for gaming
There is not a single cpu that beats this on single core performance even for triple the price
>>52352278
For that price I'd go for an i5 4590
>>52352306
and yet, there's more and more games that will require a quad core to even start up.
Any games older and you can get away with basically anything at 1080p.
If your mother board supports it get an a8 5600k
I believe that's the same chipset. How much ram and what gpu?
>>52352367
shitty console port that requires 4 cores to start up and only uses 3rd core during gameplay should be avoided anyway
>>52352314
Lmao I didn't think you'd have to replace the motherboard as well. Sorry anon. You could go for an i3 4170 and a cheap h81 mobo.
>>52352476
>this game is bad because i can't play it!
>you should avoid it too!
how's those grapes? :^)
>>52352206
This the meme to own all memes, dont buy this unless your trying to be hip
>>52352243
>>52352230
GTX 760. I changed to an i7-4790K and everything ran smooth.
To be honest I believe the reason they required such a fast CPU was the way they were ported to Linux and perhaps thermal issues since the old piece of crap uses like 200W.
>>52352537
not him, but he's not the only one who gets a lower opinion of software that's not well written even if it's usable. I don't have any games I can't play perfectly but I have some that I know are complete trash from a technical perspective.
But who expected you to care about the technical aspect of things, you're on /g/ayming anyway

Best you could get on FM2, and since that trinity you have has only a single module working, i would say it would be a decent chip to pair with that 960
>>52352661
>100W power usage
Tbh save a bit more money OP and buy a decent intel CPU+Mobo
>>52352788
Well ya, a complete system rebuild would be a better option, but if he doesn't want to my plan would work too.
>>52352156
Pick up an 860k and a cheap FM2+ Mobo for now.
The 860k has 4 cores and better single core performance than an FX-6300.
It will be around as good as a Haswell i3.
