Windows high DPI currently sucks.

I want to buy a dell xps 13, but the two resolution options are 1920x1080 and 3200x1800

If I get the 3200x1800 and run it at 1600x900 with no dpi scaling will everything look blurry? Or will it scale properly to double pixels.

Who is this bike dyke?
>>
>>52346644
I'd ride that.
>>
It shouldnt be blurry but I cant confirm
>>
>>52346644
It will look like shit. What do you expect? It's windows.

And when you plug in an external monitor, it will look like more shit since you can't scale displays separately and without driver hacks.

Just get the 1080 one if you plan to run windows, it'll save you lots of trouble.
>>
>>52346801
1080 on a 13" is too small and needs scaling anyway.

Also windows has per screen dpi scaling now.
>>
>>52346644
>yfw that's a jewess
>>
>>52346823
It does, but it works like shit, and windows dpi scaling barely works anyway; it fucks up all the window sizes and button sizes and text box sizes all over the place. Only programs that reimplement the draw stack internally and support hidpi and dpi scaling are worth using
>>
those titties are giant
>>
>>52346866
Regardless I never plan to use an external monitor on this laptop.

And I plan on avoiding dpi scaling by using a 1/2 non native resolution. Will that blur? Every pixle should scale to 4
>>
>>52346644
i would smell that seat so fucking hard mate
>>
>>52346903
No it won't blur. It'll look like 1600x900 13" standard windows.
With standard shitty font rendering, standard incoherent window decorations, standard inconsistent menu themes, and standard preschool colors.
You'll be just fine
>>
>>52346977
Awesome thanks thats what I want.
>>
Devil in a blue dress.

>>52346644

Anyway, my new laptop has a 4k screen and I don't mind the scaling. Unless you use it for business, go for it. Teh winduhs will catch up. Along with other programs.

And here I am using a 14" 1366 x 768 laptop..

Looks like Apple is the only company that got DPI scaling right.

Only reason Linux can't get it quite right is because x doesn't support input redirection. Otherwise you could just scale window contents where needed before applying decorations.
Wayland/Mir will solve this problem.

In the meantime, only badly written java guis and a few qt4 apps don't quite work right. And since you can apply arbitrary virtual scaling to any display connected, you don't have to worry about per-display dpi scaling out inconsistent window sizes
>>
>>52347117
oh, you mean things look too small. Agreed.
>>
>>52347159
Scaling is fucked up on KDE. Also most desktop environments only double the size unlike OS X and Windows.
>>
>>52346857
Even better
>>
>>52347366
I see. Seems to work fine in unity, and I'm guessing gnome.
>>
>>52347366
>Scaling is fucked up on KDE
It is, but it's a good thing that it is. KDE has the same scaling method as Unity. Only difference is that Unity scaling automatically scales fonts to "trick" a non-integer DPI multiplier. If you do the same on KDE, it works.
(I'm assuming you mean KDE 5.4 or KDE 5.5)

>>52347415
You're right. I meant Gnome and Cinnamon.

This is full suspension. Not a 5$ "uber lockable front shock with potato flow"
These are disc brakes, not the rims brakes in OP

Note the differences you bike illiterate curry.

It's like you don't know how to live.
Also if that bike in OP is for real city riding, she has a shit taste in bikes.

Get a road bike or a No-susp cruiser with a rearpackage tray.

Windows has shit DPI options.
You can chose between tiny and blurry.

Here's tiny.

Actually i was spefically quick grabbing any 29er with full sus and disc brakes for a visual example.

Since riding a 29er when i was 17 i cant ride anything else. They all feel wrong.

If all you care about is display quality buy a MacBook Pro.

Alternatively, if all you use is baked-in / windows store programmes and don't need Adobe / Autodesk / Etc support go hiDPI.
>>
>People still try to use high PPI with something other than OS X
If you want high PPI the only sane option at the moment is either buying a Mac or building a hackintosh with a high PPI display.

Xps13 3200x1800 owner here. I can tell the difference between 3200x1800 and 1600x900, stuff looks blurry. 1920x1080 looks alright(probably how 1080p version of xps would look like) but nowhere near as sharp as 3200x1800 which I use daily with 175% scaling. Only issues Ive had with scaling is steam looking blurry and photoshop cs6 not scaling. That was fixed in newer versions apperently, after some googling I changed a setting somewhere and now cs6 is fine, only menu icons are a bit blurry but working on photo is normal.

Pic related observe for yourself
