>>
>>52299911
That probably won't do anything since the OS takes over after booting and can get the camera running if it has the drivers for it. You have to get the drivers off of your OS. And that's stupid because people actually want to use their cameras. It's smartest to just put a piece of tape over the camera if you feel it is compromised. It's even smarter to not visit sketchy sites and downloading sketchy shit.

I can't say this with certainty, but I can say it with confidence: most people own shitty microphones if they own a device that has one at all. The best microphone most people have is the one in their cellphone. The average person is not being monitored through echolocation, and probably won't be for a long time because mainstream companies have no reason to make quality microphones for people who don't care about high quality sound reproduction.
The only people who need to worry about shit like that are people who have jobs which may require sensitive microphones and also have information worth stealing. Like a recording studio for famous artists, or communication networks between important figures.

Right, it's about the principle, the fact that the technology can be used in such malicious ways... but I hope you don't think covering your laptop camera and boycotting major tech brands is going to improve the mass surveillance issue in any way.

As for protecting yourself against shit like this >>52300202, a cover is reasonable but you could also just use your technology responsibly and not let other people touch your shit.

Yeah I'm sure you look like less of a paranoid moron with it UNDER the bezel.

Do you people really think someone is going to hack your laptop camera? I'm not asking if you think it's possible, we know it's possible. But do you REALLY believe someone is out there just waiting to see you on your web cam?

1. I highly doubt you're a girl, and thus worth little to nothing on camera.

In my eyes those would be the only two circumstances where you might be justified in looking like a paranoid idiot.

I went out of my way to find a laptop without an integrated webcam.
>>
>>52308058
It wouldn't be in the security settings though.
>>
No I disable it in bios and bluetooth also
>>
>>52299791
This makes me laugh everytime I'm in university classes and there are these people sitting in the 1st row, watching League of Legends on twitch and with a badly taped piece if paper over their webcam. It's like they want you to know they're jerking off in front of their laptop.
>>
>>52299791
No I make me horny to imagine that someone is watching me when I'm fapping.
>>
>>52306287

And what do you do about the integrated mic?
>>
>>52306287
Nice, is it librebooted?
>>
>>52299911
while this is effective its not guaranteed
>>
>>52299791
Yes, of course. One can never be too sure.
>>
>>52299791
I've electrically disconnected both the microphones and webcam on my laptop.
>>
>>52306424
Not really, especially if the laptop has good support. For instance, my T450s had more battery lifetime with Ubuntu instead of windows. However, a light wm and a dark theme was the best thing

I bet one laptop manufacturer could make a fortune just by putting sliding lens-caps/covers for their cameras, and acting like they're "the only manufacturer that cares about your privacy"
>>
>>52306287
Same here. My X220 has 3 antennas instead of 2 and a webcam.

There's also a little light where the webcam would be.
>>
>>52299791
Yes but I have to to keep the screen from falling off. The entire top of my laptop is taped open.
>>
>>52310143
>a dark theme
I thought this only helped battery life if you had an oled screen?
>>
duck-tape is your friend

I'll never understand how people can be enough of a paranoid idiot to do this.

100/10

Best thing I've read on /g/ in the last decade. Screencapped for posterity, and copypasta'd for future use.
>>
>not having a slider integrated in front of the lens
>>
No, i use loonix, why i must care about that?
>>
I'm more worried about looking like an autist to my peers than the NSA looking at my face.
>>
>>52311694
Better contrast. You can still see well at lower brightness settings.
Make a large white square and make one pixel black. Now do the opposite. The single brighter pixel is noticed faster.
>>
>being that autistic that you think some government agency would want to look at your fat ass jerking it to anime through your laptops webcam
>>
>>52303257
True but honestly if worried about everything being monitored on your phone then the camera would probably be the least of your concerns.

No why would I? You aren't going to get anything interesting to see on it if you bothered to hack it. It's not like I hold up my credit card or have a list of passwords written on the wall behind me.
>>
bunch of tin foil hat wearing liberal alarmists i see.
no one can access your webcam you fucking lunatics, thats not how webcams work. they have to root into your machine and be on a physical wired connection to your network.
>>
Instead of duck-tape on the camera, couldn't one just draw permanent marker over the lens?
>>
>>52315648

Yeah. Duct tape is dumb anyway as it leaves residue. Cut up the sticky part of a post-it note and place that over it.

Take a look at your Flash defaults.
It's always set to have both camera and mic remotely accessable.

Here's the pic I forgot to post.

I don't have flash installed, but this.

i don't have a laptop with a built in camera, but i did make a cover for the front camera of my phone
>>
>>52299791
No, how else would I use Windows Hello by Microsoft?
>>
Nope. If someone is watching me, I feel bad for them.
I do some pretty fucked up shit. And not in a cool, edgy way.
>>
No, but my paranoid cracker science teacher did in high school.
>>
I used to when my laptop had windows on it... Not for government paranoia reasons but in case of malware, but now I have Linux on it so
>>
>>52299791
When I still had a working laptop it didn't come with one since it was one from like 06/07, guess I was just lucky

If it's retarded as my 2560p, the webcam is on the same board as the ambient light sensor, so if you unplug it (or the cable gets damaged), the backlight turns off, even if you try to set it to manual mode.

>>52306366
I'll start earning $10/hr at Wal-Mart in February.
