And in the end the X8 end up being the "big-LOW" technology that the Moto X play's processor has. Not pretty sure if the pure 2015 has it but I suppose it works like the original X8 did.

Motorola split into two companies sometime in the 2000s. They were motorola mobility and motorola solutions. Motorola mobility is the one that is now being killed off. On the other hand, motorola mobility is still around, as they are independent of each other.

"Motorola" is only popular among tech geeks, and the fact that /g/ thinks that it's a marketable name speaks volumes. If you say "Motorola" to a normal person, the first thing they will think of is pagers from the 1990's, or if they're younger then maybe those flip phones from the 2000's. Getting rid of the "Motorola" name is a smart business move, no matter how you look at it.
