I bet it's made in China. You could have gotten one of these and it would be more American.

nah bro its made in america I googled it

America is part of Greater China, gwai lo!

Well they are a few thousand yen
>>52296403
It came in way sooner than I expected
>>52296531

>>52296531
Nice vintage Slava, anon.

yes
>>52296561
The movement is super pretty. I wonder if that swan neck regulator actually does anything.
Also, the crown action is smooth
>>52296690
thought about buying one of these
hows the quality?
>>52296655
>full gold
It's gold plated, not solid gold.
>>52296690
How much did you pay for a manual wind with no date, chronograph complication or center seconds hand in the year MMXVI?
>>52296710
Excellent so far. The case is very well built. The accuracy is pretty good so far, but I can't get the movement to hack by back winding; so I'll have to see about that. Screwed lugs are cool
what have I stumbled upon?
>>52296739
Without shipping? $120. Its more expensive though because it has a sapphire crystal.
>>52296690
Movement looks pretty nice and sandwich dials are pretty cool but that watch is absolutely disgusting and enormous. Funny how the movement looks better decorated than some actual Panerais.
>>52296850
I don't think you have enough nato straps
>>52296862
Its not as big as I thought it would be. Doesn't look too bad on my bitch wrists. I love how heavy it is though

What does Daniel Wellington have against second hands?
For the strangest of reasons I've always put my watch on my right wrist instead of my left (which is how a watch should be worn so the crown can be wound more easily). Both my parents were left handed but i turned out right handed and have always done things like a left handed person such as using a knife and fork as a left handed person should even though my right hand is dominant since i write and do everything else with it. I've always found it easier to put my watch on with my left hand compared to my right. I want to start wearing it correctly (on the left) but i struggle to put it on and usually find it uncomfortable. Any advice on how to get out of this strange habit? Maybe if i force myself to always wear the watch on the left wrist I'll get use to it but i honestly can't say for sure.
>>52297133
Muh minimalism
>>52296754
>cant see the dial from an angle
Utter Dogshit
Goat Diver Style, dressy or diveish depending on strap and bracelet.
Did I get memed? 47mm on my 6.3" wrist is gonna look gud :^)
no srsly I got the 47mm but my wrist is 60mm wide and the watch is 57mm l2l
>>52297702
The fifty fathoms is the best watch ever made, that's a pretty shit mod though.
>>52297702
Why even bother reading the time from that angle?
>>52297786
Shit? Its the goat dial and not the bland submariner one with dots.
Also the sailcloth is goat band for it.
>>52296098

>>52298001

>>52298681
Good value for money ratio basically. This extends even to the multi kilobuck tier.
>>52298767
high value watches are only worth it when they confer status like omega and rolex
nobody cares if you spent $5000 on a shitty watch unless it says rolex on it
>>52297225
I do this too, my advice to you is don't bother.
I once went a whole week trying to wear my watch on the "correct" wrist and all I managed to do is bang it everywhere because i was so used to having my watch on the other wrist.
It's really difficult to unlearn that. I also wear my belt the wrong way.
>>52297225
>(which is how a watch should be worn so the crown can be wound more easily).
nah, avoid using the crown while wearing the watch
puts unnecessary pressure on the poor crown and while not necessarily likely, it might break if you did that all the time
only really a problem with chronographs where you do want to use the pushers
>>52299250
That's really only true for normies. However a number of watchfags will agree that something like a grand seiko is on par with, or better, than a given rolex or whatever other watch in the same price bracket.
>>52299340
Even then you just use your thumb instead, it isn't any harder at all.
>>52299250
its a bit hard to say to be fair
who do you even want to impress? sure, the average joe will only know rolex, but if you're sort of above that, something else might be more interesting
>>52299400
>i want to impress watchfags
>>52299430
lets say that you're not a middle class dude saving up for a watch but rather a person for whom it is totally normal/expected to have a luxury watch
do you seriously believe that in such social circles, its all rolex? that something else can't be more interesing
>spending thousands of dollars on something not because you like it but because you want to make sure that people around you notice it and know how much you spent on it.
:-DDD
>>52299480
As long as we're being trite, there's a saying that goes along the lines of "you buy a rolex to impress others, but you buy a grand seiko to impress yourself".
Sup?
Also looking to add a traditional timepiece here pretty soon for special occasions. Looking to spend less than €2,000.
Any suggestions?

How does /wt/ feel about two-tone watches?
>>52299708
>>52300118
Get out, you have no place here.
>>52300209
Disgusting, they almost always look incredibly tacky.
>>52300166
Wow, that's the first day-date I've ever liked.
>>52300209
The only acceptable two tones are blue dial divers.
>>52300209
IMO either go hard or go home, stainless steel or yellow gold case (not plated)
>>52300229
a lot of old man love this kind of gold though...I've seen two old man wearing a completely gold watch, not sure if they are real gold or just the color. Kinda guessing they are real since those old people tend to be rich
>>52299999
So glad one of my watches came in today

>>52300282
This checks out, the watch I posted was my grandfather's.
>>52300305

>>52296531

>>52300346
>Homages are bad
>>52300359
Homages aren't that bad, Panerai's disgusting designs are.
>>52300209
I actually prefer them over full gold in some cases. I mostly like it on Rolex though, paricularly Datejusts, but any similar-ish dressy sporty design works.
Two-tone blue-faced submariner also works better than a full gold sub.
>>52300371
are you sure you're not just hating on panerai in general and letting your hatred affect how you perceive the designs?
I just can't see any other explanations for this overly strong madness about the designs; they're not that bad on those basic ones. some look ridiculous with those shitty date magnifiers and blah blah
>>52300378
>>52300255
Having a colored dial is not two toned.
>>52300371
PAMs are the only >42mm watch I'd wear, but fuck paying like 9 grand for an ETA.
That excludes divers by the way. The SKX and the Turtle are nice looking watches
is anyone qualified to give valuations here, maybe watchmaker?
>>52300403
Pretty sure, they're fucking hideous watches. The obscene pricing and lazy movements are only the icing on the shit cake
>>52300422
Watchmakeranon is ded
>>52300440
oh noes, rip in pieces
>>52300359
I'm fine with homages but Panerai and anything that tries to look like a Panerai is absolutely fucking disgusting.
>>52300405
uh, I'm pretty sure two tone refer specifically to watches with their case/bracelet in two tones (nearly always these would be steel and gold)
nothing about dial or even bezel
>>52300534
Right, that's what I was saying to the anon I replied to?
>>52300489
Again, I'm with you on hating Panerai but the basic 1950 design is really nice.
>>52300551
yeah and I believe we meant these specific blue dial watches...which are two tone
>>52300225
huhuhu
>>52300584
Oh that's what you meant, sorry I misunderstood. That one is almost over the line into acceptable territory but it's so flashy it comes off as ostentatious.

Found my dad's old timex he wore in the 70s, or maybe 80s I don't know. He said it's mechanical, maybe at some point I'll get it serviced, at the least I'll just put it in a box when I buy one. Said it was cheap but I guess that goes without saying. Shitty tablet camera trying to get it so the dial is actually visible.

>>52300312
damn you are lucky! Wish I can inherit a watch...my grandfather use to have a rolex, but he lost it while working. Pic related is the only watches he have left
>>52301190
I don't, the strap is beat to hell and was kind of falling apart some taking it off the watch, ton of green shit melted to it. The actual watch looks ok, no numbers on it or anything though. I have never gotten a watch serviced though and have no clue what it would cost.
>>52301468
Depends on who you take it to, and how much work is required. I'd say don't be surprised if a full service of the movement costs a few hundred. Might be less, who knows.

At least until they start the "hurr durr Smartwatches are superior to regular watches". Otherwise let them stay, except iwatches of course.
Is there a decent camera I can buy for 20 bucks or sub 50? I don't want a smartphone, I just want quality thats better than my shitty tablet, only going to really be using it for 4chan.

I bought a basic Pebble smartwatch. Is it capable of much, or did I waste my money?
>>52299526
What's this strap style called?
>>52302563
I 'borrowed' one from a retailer with a good returns policy. Controlling music / the Uber app / alerts were decently useful, but the basic models are so fucking ugly it's embarrassing.
If they had something like the old B/W Steel model's styling with a color screen and thinner I'd think about it.
>>52302683
>may i help the next customer
>hi, what is your reason of returning this item?
Sound familiar?
>>52302788
"I just didn't like it"
It's something you have to ask, normally the POS will have options regarding the reason.
>>52302871
its horrible when those customers return the package in a horrible condition. wish I can deny those retards, but the manager will always approve it. Glad tomorrow will be my last day
>>52302650
It's made by Hadley-Roma, I think called a "Swiss Army" strap or something like that.
>>52302788
I have a feeling they just tape packages back up and resell them sometimes, but that's their problem.
I'm really liking this thing. Its big but very wieldy and the dial is super legible.
Currently testing the accuracy and power reserve. Its been running for about 12 hours now and is still accurate to the minute (didn't bother syncing seconds yet). Hopefully good signs so far
>>52303116
Yup, mostly, they tape them up. Some just throw everything in and close the package. In the only one who care enough to put it close to the original as possible, even the ones that they will return it to the vendors.
>>52303129
>>52303087

>Approximate Case Diameter: 33mm
>Approximate Case Thickness: 11mm
would this work on small mens wrist? it's a women watch.
>>52303901
Eh.. that's pretty small. That size would be fine for a dress watch but on a diver it's going to look a bit anaemic.
For example the SKX013 is 38mm vs the more regular 42
>>52303901
Yeah, that's only 1mm less diameter than a Rolex airking. Generally around 31 has been considered "boys size" for young or small-wristed men. Women's watches are generally under 30mm
Needs more minute sweeps (a seiko hi-beat would be nice).
>>52304268
Too lazy
>>52304283
Do it when you're not lazy then. It only takes a minute.
>>52304060

Why is JLC so based every year of every century?
>>52306105
I've got a similar one, some old rich guy croaked and gave it to my gramps who gave it to me.
But, I can't tell if its a fake or not. The JL logo is placed instead of the index for 9 o'clock, automatic is written below the 6 o'clock index and the hands are sqaure, not pointy like that.

>they are just quartz right?
No, they're vintage luxury watches from a time when quartz was brand new and crushing the mechanical competition. The fact that they're less than $200 now just shows the ridiculous stigma plebs put on quartz, the finishing and overall quality of them are outstanding.

They make watches that look like shit with basic movements and charge out the ass for them. If you want to waste money on them fine, but expect to be made fun of by those who know anything about watches.
>>52312071
I just noticed they are only 10 ATM water resistant.
That's a little disappointing for a 400$is "diver"
>>52312107
got mine for $200 when they had a new years sale ( ≖‿≖)
but yea, im not going to go abalone diving with this thing on, i just wear it for the look
>>52312116
I'll have to keep an eye on that, maybe get another diver and wait to pick up an SR3 if they go on sale.
I do like the look and wouldn't mind wearing it for the look alone, but I don't know if I would pay full price now thst I see the WR.
I mean I could get an Orient or seiko that beats that for a fraction of the sticker price

how do people wear a 33?
i have shitty small wrists at almost 19 cm and i wear a 50 one and it only looks big when i hold my arm up cause its thick,if i let it hang it looks small and its smaller than my wrist lenght by noticeable amount.
>>52312205
>wearing a 50mm watch
>any year
Are you black/hispanic?
>>52312205
>50
No, it always looks big and like shit
>>52312205
Well the citizen you mentioned is meant to be a matching ladies watch for the regular men's size for one, second unless your're Schwarzenegger a 50mm watch is going to look fucking stupid always.

>>52312243
mb in a month or so i'll get a seiko 5 or something like that, kinda new to this but i am just saying that if 33 cm looks big on you than you should fucking suicide.
The only thing i hate about this watch is that its something like a little over a cm thick. and square sized.
>>52312313
Who ever said they wear a 33, let alone that it was big on them?
>>52312474
Not him, but my accutron's case is about 34mm wide. Vintage watches in general are smaller than modern equivalents.
>>52312527
That's true, and there are plenty of 33-35mm watches that look fine but I don't know that anyone would consider them too large for them.
>>52299678
>but you buy a grand seiko to other autists on the internet".

Literally a Grand Seiko, and with some of the finest quartz movements that have ever been made and which are more high tech than the vast majority of the ones being made today 40 years later. And they can be had for a couple hundred dollars and you think that's too high?
Greatest watch in the world

It was a little difficult to parse your grammar.

>>52302197
That watch on the right is really nice
Can you still get watches like that? I just had a google and it looks like they maybe don't make ones like that anymore (at least, with a rubber strap, but I guess I could get a metal bracelet one and swap on a rubber strap)
Okay,/g/ what watch shold i buy in 200 pounds budget from amazon.uk?
>>52313358
Literally on amazon, rubber strap and all. You must not have been looking very hard.
3 years ago i bought this shitwad. Sunday, Im going out to pick up my Audemars Piguet. Worked my way up in the automotive industry and now I had room to buy it.
