Is Windows officially a botnet now?

Vulkan and Linux gaming can't get here fast enough.
>>
>>52266177
Literally the only reason anyone here uses windows is gaming.
>>
Everything is botnet already. Tech companies have colluded into an oligarchy to make botnet and spying the status quo. 20 years ago nobody would have installed software that constantly informed its manufacturer what you did at all times, but now it's almost exclusively the case. Amazing how much PR and advertising can warp the collective psyche.
>>
>>52266238
>Vulkan and Linux gaming can't get here fast enough.
>>
>>52266255
Thanks helpful citizen.
>>
Is this even a question? Windows is proprietary non-free software, meaning, Microsoft the inhumane shilords they are, they spy and take your info and give it to a lot of higher ups, the only way to escape the botnet is to install debian or gentoo, you can still run your .exe files with Wine, so you can still do muh gaymin on Linux and have free software while being out of a botnet
>>
>>52266177
Why the fuck would any PC developer use vulkan? DX12 will win once again.
>>
>>52266321
Vulkan is scheduled to run on far more devices than computers that run Windows.
>>
>>52266321
They will have comparable performance. It would be stupid to tie yourself down to DX12 since it's only supported on Windows machines. Devs will want to tap Windows, OS X and Linux (read: Android) to make as much money as possible.
>>
>>52266337
So basically loonix gets mobile games?
>>
>>52266367
No, not basically. Vulkan will be powering the PS5, the WiiU++ and Android.
>>
>>52266350
>Devs will want to tap Windows, OS X and Linux (read: Android) to make as much money as possible.
Most "devs" just use a game engine which makes that easy enough. 90% of all they have to do is compile their game on linux or OS X and it will work but very few care about such a niche market share.
>Android
You will never get a fallout 5 for phones/tablets, the form factor is the issue not performance. If you've tried the GTA ports you'll know what I am talking about.
>>
>>52266419
They seem to care enough now to compile for Linux if they have the ability. Also, Android doesn't just run on phones and tablets, it can be run on anything.
>>
>>52266394
>Nintendo and Sony are willing to make it easier for devs to move to mobile platforms
Standardization brings end to competition. Look at what Nvidia and Intel did to PCs.
>>
>>52266458
Monopolization brings and end to competition, not standardization. That was a fucking stupid thing to say.
>>
>>52266452
>if they have the ability
Show me one popular game engine that doesn't work on linux.
>it can be run on anything
Most android gaming is done on phones and tablets though.
>>
>>52266473
Monopolization is caused by standardization, huge companies will just swallow everyone else making the same thing due to their massive resources.
>>
>>52266513
>>52266458
That's why there are no more pre-built PC manufacturers. They all died out when Dell bought them all.
>>
>>52266296
>wine
Does it add any input lag?
>>
>>52266528
Nice try Samsung shill, but the likes of HP and Acer are dying.
>>

battlefield engine
>>
>>52266177

I wouldn't mind if most lintard devs and company also focused on video industry software instead of another servers solution when there already billions of people working on the same things since forever.

The reason why windows video and audio mixing software cost an arm and legs was because there are no better competition/solution from OPEN shit.
>>
>>52266589
Aren't?
>>
>>52266592
A third standard will surely convince them to remove those DXisms and leave the xbox in the dust.

So is steam and every single game they make available.

>Microsoft the inhumane shilords they are
So is steam for their drm and proprietary shitware,

>so you can still do muh gaymin on Linux and have free software
No you can't, this is quite literally a "pick one" situation.
>>
>>52266622
HP is desperate. They're bleeding hundreds of millions of dollars every years thanks to Intel Itanium.
>>

What about tux racer?

>>52266856
Then I guess Windows is ok as log as you use Firefox, because a little freedom is better than no freedom
>>
>>52266949
it is better but firefox on a free OS is much better
>>
>>52266238
This is a big fat lie.
Windows just werks and is stable. Both can't be said about Linux.
>>
>>52266997
Because manufacturers are greased by MS to put only Windows on their machines. Ubuntu is easier to use than Windows 8.1 and comparable to 10.
>>
>>52266949
>What about tux racer?
Alright well there are hardly any FOSS games, plus this is about le vulkan steam meme, I doubt any FOSS games will ever use this... like ever.
>>

Decrypting....

Is that a comfy library VR demo? Is that demo open source, I need a library model for something as I want to implement Borges' Library of Babel in VR. The randomization code has already been completed and open sourced by another programmer and all you would need is the library assets in a VR-capable game engine and some basic animations for it to be complete.
>>
>>52267646
You probably are
>>
>>52266238
Whenever I need to do work related to video and sound editing, or creating websites, working with servers I have to use Windows.

Which is all the time.

Linux is such shit if it isn't just in a server.

Is that it? Do you have an actual argument?
>>
>>52267516
Wrong

Plenty of great games on Linux right now. Plenty are being ported and more and more new titles are being released with Linux support. Literally no reason not to be using Linux exclusively right now other than

>>52266394
>>52266458
Bullfuck. Sony's not letting devs move from GNMX because PS4 emulation will become significantly easier if API moved to Vulkan and Nintendo will use their propietary OGL fork. And as soon as google realises they can vendor lock developers like with Apple switching to their own in house metal solution. It's only going to end up as Linux and W10 only (Never mind Android's going to be marganlised out to a mobile only platform)

Vulkan's PR is a fucking pipe dream and they are way back on schedule.
>>
>>52269837
so I can play new games? And it's a dice roll if they use Vulkan or DX12?

I want to install Linux. Dual booting is for pussies, imo, but frankly I'm not willing to use Linux and deal with its idiosyncracies(although I know how, having used it as a kid) if I'm going to get half an OS. And yes, that means gaming support.
>>
>>52267600
But wesnoth! Cube! Xonotic! Tux racer! Planeshift! Land of Fire! The Mana World! Evol! Stendhal! Tremulous! Nexuiz!
>>
>>52269882
Yeah, khronos group doesn't seem to understand that delivering early is better than delivering a good product in a post-2010 world.
>>
>>52269930

So 2020 will be the year of Linux and Vulkan, then
>>
>>52269978
No because it will be much too late by then (as always, thanks khronos!)

>>

The year of Linux will happen when people stop trying to make it happen. Also hardware support. Also it's never going to happen because nobody uses Linux for games.

install Gentoo

I have a dual titan X setup and the linux drivers are the best of all OSs; I get up to 160% improved performance for my workloads. I wouldn't even dream to use windows for gpgpu tasks.

Dude, the arena fps genre is dead. I just play Quake III, UT99 and UT2k4. UT2k4 was probably the last "real" arena shooter, and even then it made concessions with stuff like vehicles.

>>52270394
That's because the linux userbase is smaller and also a hell of a lot more spergy. Some of the guys on Tom's Hardware or Bleepingcomputer could qualify for Doctors Without Borders, their patience levels are inhuman.

>>52266250
20 years ago doing that would have crippled your internet connection. Not to mention the performance cost. I do enjoy this dystopian future though. FOSSberpunk should be a thing. I can imagine it now, tubby nerds with beards and usb livecds running in the shadows, freeing enslaved propietary code and banging sultry waifu pillows. It's beautiful.

Over non-standard things, sure. Because most people don't want to deal with 10000 incompatible parts, be it of software or of hardware.

> Look at what Nvidia and Intel did to PCs.
They did kinda provide the designing and manufacturing capability that almost no one else has?

Only with current miniaturization levels and stuff, the comparatively less complex ARM - based industry is now happening.
