Yes. Wait for both zen and kaby lake, and compare. Kaby lake will have the kinks worked out, along with native USB 3.1, 10-bit hardware support, and better IG (Skylake IG) is worse than broadwell.

If you need a cpu asap, you can use get20off on jet and get the i5 6500 for $160. Which is what I did for my friend. Dirt cheap and over clock able

2. Pascal & see what it brings
3. Intel new chips, also considering xeons moving forward
Also waiting on other hbm gpus, better options on mobos with usb 3.1, nvme, etc etc.

I have aa ivy bridge i3 and was planning to either upgrade to a i5 or Xeon with hyperthreading but now I'm waiting to see what zen will bring. If Zen ends up very good I have no problem with supporting AMD and buying a Zen. I don't want a x86 monopoly.

Yes, it might become a competitive offering at a lower price.
If you need performance now however, I'd just buy it. Zen is gonna take probably at least until Summer or late spring, and that's optimistic.

same here, except I'm running a Q9650, and my machine is dying, I don't know how much longer I can wait I'm already getting parity errors, boot hangs, random freezing, etc.

if you're willing to spend for a new platform you may as well wait for zen and skip skylake. skylake isnt an upgrade to anything.

Will definitely be important to get good DDR4 if you're considering the Zen APUs with HBM. Slow RAM would very easily be a bottleneck on them.
