Modern doesn't imply usefulness, most of the updates to software since XP came out is just UI revamps or handholding for home users playing pretend professional. XP still has plenty capable browsers and a wide range of software to accomplish whatever you want, plus the software will likely be even more efficient than trying to run some bloated modern title with practical gains on it.
Security is really the only truly valid concern with using XP on contemporary hardware, and even then with common sense you'll more thank likely be fine.

I have a Cf30 I am on right now running windows 10. But for something that old I would recomend Ubuntu or Debian. Also install some touch screen calibration software if your model comes with a touch screen like mine does because the default config is never good enough.

I can say I've managed to instal OS X Tiger on a Pentium 4 Machine, and I even got the Ethernet port to work, but the browser was so outdated I couldn't play videos on youtube.

For hardware as old as yours, it really should be running lubuntu or lxle. Boot a live USB/CD image, scour that laptop of anything worth archiving, setup a linux with a lightweight DE+WM, and you've got yourself a rugged little bring-anywhere box. Personally, I would find that very useful, despite the fact I have a tablet and a smartphone.
If you're feeling up to it, pick a KDE distro/variant and start tweaking the shit out of it. KDE can be quite performant, but requires a lot of doing to get there.
