Resolution isn't everything. It's way more important how it was encoded. "Generally" bigger means better, but only if you know nothing about what sizes are reasonable. Coalgirls are notorious for their bloaty file sizes because the encoder (Tenshi only) usually just cranks the bitrate up way higher than necessary. You can do a bit of research on what group is preferred for a certain show before you download, or just check the screenshots to see which one you prefer.

Filesize is also affected by the switch to 10bit color. That happened in like 2011 maybe? I don't really remember. Anyway, stuff encoded in 10bit can have higher video quality at comparable filesize at the cost of not being able to be played back with hardware acceleration, they must be decoded in software.
Some subgroups take advantage of this and keep filesizes low, some kept filesizes the same and try to increase video quality. Just something to be aware of. Most stuff nowadays is 10bit, they used to label it but it's pretty standard now.

Coalgirls' version is fine, the TS is a bit ugly though. Outline on font too thick. Mazui did a good job as well, but I don't consider it worth the extra 5gb.

For me it's about quality. I have a nice system and I like to use it.
