Totally worth it.
Been using spotify premium for about three months. $10 is worth the hassle of DL and transferring files onto listening device(s)
>>
>>52178682
Not worth it most likley.

If you really want something, buy it from the artist. Not someone trying to rob both of you.
>>
>>52178750
spotify is great you are paying for the service not the music
>>
I don't trust centralized services with proprietary clients and DRM. I want to be in control.
>>
Since I got spotify premium I've stopped torrenting albums for the most part.

It's so nice to have a wide variety of music to your disposal. You can have your classical playlist, your throwbacks, your gym music, your introspective playlist and your sextime music in the same place for 10 bucks.

Worth it.

Google Play Music has been excellent so far.

You can upload 40k of your own tracks for free if you don't want to pay for it.

I feel that the concept is good and in theory it's totally worth it, but unfortunately the apps leave a lot to desire and the library is missing a lot of content.

This. It's great to be able to just log in from anywhere: TV, phone, laptop, desktop, tablet, whatever, and just be able to play any song, add songs to your library and playlists, and start radios from songs, albums, artists, or genres to discover new music to add to your library. The service and convenience is worth the money which is what you are paying for, not the music.
>>

I have Deezer for ~$6/month through Cricket Wireless. It's not bad considering I don't listen to much music. I don't like making playlists or anything like that. The recommendations are usually shit though. Rdio was the best music service I had. I could consistently let it play music without skipping songs.

I wish there was a music service that I could tell what about a song I liked so it wouldn't play shit that I didn't. Sometimes I like certain aspects of a song that don't pertain to the entire genre. For instance, I don't like female vocals in rock or metal songs, but there's no option for that.

>>
I have yet to find a music service I like.
Spotify doesn't recognize "I don't want to hear this song ever".
Pandora repeats the same shit way too much.

Also the algorithms they use to determine what you'd like is really shitty.
"I normally hate rap, but I like ONE song by this artist since it's not rap! I'll click like."
>"Hey you probably will like these other rap songs!"
It doesn't differentiate by SONG type it differentiates by artists. Which is just stupid.
>>

>>52179170

>>
>>52178682
i think it's stupid. you pay and don't really receive anything in return. all you get is temporary access to something.
if you ever stop paying, everything is gone. you might have paid hundreds of dollars up to that point, but it doesn't matter, you end up owning nothing.
if spotify or whatever service you're using decides to remove some content, it's gone.
if they ever go out of business, it's gone.
>>
>>52178682

It's the equivalent of buying an album once a month. You are over simplifying what music streaming is to just bit rate. You are paying for the service and convenience.
>>

Worth $10? Nope. If you're a student, you can get it for $5, which is bearable. I get it for free, so it's worth it, even if the PC software is slow.

Spotify

Like most "music screaming" disservices, Spotify is based on proprietary malware (DRM and snooping). Recently it demanded users submit to increased snooping, and some are starting to realize that it is nasty.

However, it was nasty all along. Any "service" that is based on not letting people have their own copies is a scheme to subjugate people. Once you submit, they are always ready to use that leverage to subjugate you more.

This article shows the twisted ways that they present snooping as a way to serve users better — never mind whether they want that. This is a typical example of the attitude of the proprietary software industry towards those they have subjugated.

Out, out, damned Spotify!

Spotify has high quality files, a large library, and fast. Take me for example, I have a playlist with 1600 songs which I continuously expand. If I'm at a party and hear some new cool shit, I just search it on spotify and DL it. instantly. nad I've backed up the playlist so that I remember it.

If you are anything like me, a guy who listyens to a very broad array of genres and artists, spotify is the way to go.

No, just buy the albums you like. With Spotify you're basically renting your music: you'll have to pay *forever* $120 a year for the right of accessing your music and playlists (assuming the price doesn't go up eventually). And if a couple of years from now Spotify files for bankruptcy, your music is gone, even if you spent on it $120/year. Compare this with owning your music: assuming you do backups of your CDs or digital downloads, you'll have access to it forever.

Spotify is NOT a replacement for buying/torrenting music.

I've had premium for the last few months and mostly use it to discover new artists (the discover weekly playlists are usually quite good).

If you're not a poorfag then $10 isn't much for the convenience of being able to play your music anywhere and from any device.

>fag buys music

stoopid man
>>
i like EDM so i pay $10 a month to download off of frisky radio. streaming is free. call me a hipster but all the popular sites just play vocal poppy shit.

for classical i just buy used cds from bookstores because they typically sell for pennies.

torrenting is great but audio quality is often a real gamble and truth be told there's a lot of good stuff that's not available on torrents. i got a buddy with a what.cd account and their selection is disappointing, he's left with just stockpiling metal albums since their EDM horde is 'uninspired'.
>>
>>52178682
No the selections are garbage if you have anything but plebeian taste in music
>>
I payed for 3 months for $1 and then quit. I still have it on my computer, it's nice to use it to check out new albums before I waste bandwidth downloading them myself. For full time listening one can just use ex blocker on desktop to stop ads, but your fucked for the mobile version. But then it's easy to transfer files to your phone, as you actually own the music and not a license to play the music. If moving files is a high effort task for anyone they shouldn't be here.

Anyone that is saying that not buying albums hurts artists doesn't understand the music industry, unless you are buying from band camp or something the artist is getting very little from your album purchase and gets virtually no money from streaming. If you truly support an artist, buy their merchandise and see them on tour.

The price is too high.
I want to be able to listen to music that I like without having my life analyzed.
Spotify has done more harm to humanity than Isis.
If you pay for spotify you are figuratively financing terror.

This shit on spotify bothers me. They somehow have multiple copies of the same album you can't differentiate. So if you add the same song to your library, you can see its album twice in your library

I use it because I listen at work and putting music on a player to take is a hassle.

The apps are fucking pieces of shit. The phone app cannibalizes my battery, the desktop app is just shit.
>>
Spotify seems to be the only streaming app that works properly for me. Apple Music's app sucks (at least when I was using it for the trial period on my iPad & computer) and Google Play Music always stops uploading my ~10000 song library at ~400 songs. Currenly I use a cracked Spotify apk.

I was on the Spotify Premium for a while with the student discount with the idea that I was going to stop pirating music, but after I finished listening to an album I liked I would go download it to my computer. I guess I just like having the actual files.

i like to think of spotify as an online radio with basically infinite stations.

I don't want to pay money just to listen, but I don't mind being subjected to ads because of that.
>>
I use Google Play Music All Access.

I am atrocious at keeping up to date with music but this has really started to help. I will generally just use the streaming for discovering new stuff and then if I have enough money at the end of my months budget I will buy some songs or torrent them so I have my own downloaded copy that Google can't get rid of.

Seriously though I love spotify, and there was just a sale I copped that got me 3 months of premium for 99 cents. Best deal ever

The reason why people have been torrenting for so long is because companies were extremely jewy when it came to providing music abundantly. Spotify meets every single need for my music taste, and i'm willing to spend 1 hour of my work time a month to pay for unlimited music. It's mind blowing how well it works.
>>
>>52202353
Yes, Spotify has tons of jpop and weebshit. I'm listening to Miku right now.

I've been abusing the three months of spotify for 1 dollar promotion for a year now
I've got several cards from senpaitachi I still haven't used.
I mean one buck for three months it's totally worth it but if I had to pay full price I'd go with Apple Music. The selection is bigger and discovering new music is pretty good with the curated playlists features.
Still, I think I'd pirate everything if I had to pay for this shit

Fuck Apple. They weren't the pioneers of this unlike Spotify who paved the way of streaming music to the masses. They deserve the money. Apple on the other hand wouldn't mind scrapping their streaming service because it's only giving them a fraction of their annual revenue.

I don't give a shit about who started it senpai I just want the better music selection, and from my experience using both Apple Music has the best selection.
The iOS built in player also doesn't make me want to shoot a nigger like the Spotify player and the mess it creates when you download music.
Although Spotify has some nice features like controlling playback from a different device and the desktop app isn't shit like Apple Music, the benefits of Apple Music outweigh the downsides.

It's okay, some of us in life don't care enough to make a lot of money, and even though we're at the very bottom of the financial system... we keep shit running. People you look down upon yet take for granted that someone is willing to clean up messes in a retail store, or to fix you up a meal they stressed to make.

Someone made a decentralized bittorrent-based streaming service. Decentralized autonomous servers are coming nobody will be able to shut it down or censor it. Information freedom is right around the corner.
