It's not that SSDs placebos. There's just a trade-off between speed and data-integrity.

Mechanical keyboards. SSD has a use, a mechanical keyboard is completely worthless waste of money.

Why is a mechanical keyboard a meme? I just like the more tactile response. I don't assume it's any more responsive than any other decent keyboard, I just like the way it feels. As for SSD, again this isn't a meme. Have you tried using one? It cuts boot times, load times in software etc.

Neither of these things are a must own but I prefer to have them and I'm not some poor fag who can't afford it. So why not. I also own a 4k monitor just to look at cute girls doing cute things on. How many memes did I buy into?
>>
>>52176460
Neither are placebos, but SSDs have a scientifically measured effect. The whole point of mechanical keyboards is that they FEEL better.
>>
>>52176460
SSDs aren't really a meme, but it's fun to watch newfags/redditors jumping the bandwagon.
>the meme is the actual meme

MKB are almost entirely a meme. Some really do prefer the XBOXHUEG keys for "feeling the response" But in reality we like to watch you circlejerking over overpriced crap and secretely laugh.
>>
>>52177691
>Why is a mechanical keyboard a meme?
Because everything is a meme.
>>
>>52177691
Surely the "feel" can be better on mechanical keyboards, but that doesn't justify the exaggerated price
>>
>>52177890

>but that doesn't justify the exaggerated price
I spend hours in front of the computer every day. Why not spend some money to make it a more pleasant experience?
>>
>>52176959
Where the fuck are you getting that from? The 5% is the SSD reliability rating, the 70% is the HDD speed rating.

isn't that contraproductive?

Why not? It's something I use several hours every day for both work and hobbies. $80-100 for a decent mechanical isn't all that expensive especially not for the amount of use I get out of it.

If I had to say any piece of hardware I've bought lately is a meme, it's my DAC. I had a cheapo $80 DAC. Bought a Schitt bitfrost which was like $400. Can't tell the difference with either my HD650s or DT880s.
>>
>>52176460
neither, $100 mechanical keyboards are good, unless you are too poor to afford them and call everything a meme
>>
>>52176460
It has to be mechanical keyboards. People rant and rave about how much more comfortable it is and how they can magically type faster. All the full fags have one.
>>
>>52176460
ssd isn't a meme
mechs are a meme, but they give fulfillment to my sad and depressing life.
>>
Everything is a meme if you buy it because of what x person said. Read about it and see if it applies for your use. Not fucking rocket science but corporate world always wants you to buy buy buy.

Mechanical keyboard provides a totally different typing experience for the main way people interface with computers. If you try both and think it's the same then don't fucking spend a shit load of money on a mechanical keyboard. If you notice a clear preference then there you go.

Ssd vs hdd is the same shit. Are the differences of benefit for your use? Get it. It seems only downside of ssd is reliability - that can easily be countered with regular backups for example. It is much harder to make hdds as fast as an ssd and much easier to backup an ssd to an extra hdd...

Higher resolution? Yeah clearly that is the future - when have we not constantly increased this? If you don't have a video card to really support it and no content it's pointless. If you know what is available or build a system to utilize it then you will certainly see the difference. For some it is fine for others they probably spent a shit load on something they won't utilize until it is substantially cheaper in mass later. 1440p and 4k screens are already practical in most office environments. It's all about seeing those excel rows.
>>
>>52177955
It's because anon is reading the graph like I did too, thinking that the left part was a speed graph and the right part was a reliability graph.
That makes more sense, seems more natural to me.
but oh well, we're blind LOL EKS DEE

>>52177982
It depends on how you type. It depends on your taste, your feel, your accuracy.
I bet some people, including you, like typing more on flat keyboards because it requires less travel distance.
However, what happens when I type on a flat keyboard is that I hammer the keys on purpose, because I need to feel or hear that I pressed something.

It results in my colleagues making fun of me as if I destroy keyboards, but if I know that's how I can reduce some typos, then that's what I do.
Had I been full homo I would've ordered a cheap mechanical I could bring to work, but it's not that big of a deal. I'm used to mashing keys when at work, and being soft and gentle when at home, because I know I don't do the novice mistakes when I can feel what I type.

Sure, it makes no difference to use a high quality keyboard with nice feel vs crap rubber dome.

Also there's no point in living in properly built house when you can live in a cardboard box for free. Look boxes have quite good thermal insulation thus are perfectly fine to live in.

All these guys talking about several hours in fron of pc to justify their purchases. Nobody gives a fuck if you are happy with what you got.
Anyways to brag about: Sitting currently like 12 or more hours in fron of a pc every day, doing this for like 10 years now (and yes I have a job and yes I am overweight) using my mecha keyboard for like 2 weeks now and it feels so awesome.
>>
>decide to get mkb

Nice meme, ill stay with my Logitech Illuminated Keyboard
>>
>>52187526
Or you can, you know, get an actual good mechanical keyboard.

This "mechanical keyboards are a meme" meme needs to die.
I bought my mkb because I wanted my setup to look better because I sit at my computer 80% of my time because of work. It's also much nicer to type on for long sessions.

When will /g/ grow up?
>>
>>52176460
SSDs are fucking awesome, I can't use a machine without one; too ghetto slow, I'm not a retard with slow reaction time and thought processes like HDD users.

It's a literal meme, it doesn't give you any advantage over a normal keyboard. I paid mine 15€ and its a full keyboard, keys are silent, looks sleek and it has media buttons
>>
>>52181496

The chart is fake, Ars would never use such arbitrary scales and measures.

Also, 19 out of 20 SSDs failed? Are you fucking serious?
>>
>>52187672
It is a literal meme, but it's personal preference.
It's like the placebo, if it helps you, despite offering no other innate advantage, then it helps.

>>
>>52188677
Netbooks have come back though. You just won't like them. Unlike old netbooks, the new ones are pretty much the same as tablets. Everything is soldered on the board, nothing is removable/replaceable. They get nice performance, and sick battery life, but at the cost of reparability. Sorry anon.
>>
>>52188631
>for gaming nkro and reliability are more important

That's a very nice meme, anon. Not even 10kro is important in games.
As a matter of fact, you could go down to 5kro and it wouldn't make a difference in 99.9% of games. The only games with issues there would be IIDX-style rhythm games.
>>
>>52189320
Do you not know how RAM works? As soon as it loses power, it gets wiped. RAM is not meant for long-term storage, something you're going to want to do with an OS. Ram will keep getting faster and more efficient, but I don't see it going higher than 64-128gb for consumers. Besides, this is what PCI-e ssds are for. You get I same speed with the storage and long-term storage in one.
