I just switched from the former to the latter in pic related
Holeeeshit! I thought hdmi was a fucking meme but it's a huge upgrade:
Audio AND video in one cable
All digital, not a single pixel will ever be distorted or lost between your source and monitor
Dramatic improvement in FPS
It's constantly getting new features with updates (1.3a, 1.4, 2.0)
Supports uhd, 4k, 8k,...
2.0 adds CEC, your source can control your monitor, power it on, off, etc
Encryption, via HDCP, the NSA can't spy on what you're looking at on an hdmi monitor
2.0a will support Dolby Vision (HDR video)

sticky, >>>/wsr/, faggot

Oh my god, it's like technology invented at a later point in time is better than the thing preceded by it. Your processor also runs faster than an NES did. More shocking news at 11.

Shouldn't you be using DisplayPort?
>>52174948
>fps improvement
nope. dual link DVI is actually better
>new features
nope. Both sides have to support it, and 1.4 hardware isn't getting an update to 2.0
>4k, 8k
Nope. 4k is only 30fps in 1.4, 8k is only in 2.0 and most devices aren't 2.0 yet
>audio and video in one cable
Yep. That's the strength.
Maybe you'll discover displayport and then have all the goodies in one.
>>52174948
it is a meme, it doesn't respect your freedoms. DVI is free from HDCP unlike HDMI. Monitor speakers are usually bad because they are limited in space and are an afterthought.

To be fair, I use HDMI myself for my living room. All devices are connected via a single cable to my receiver, then the receiver is connected via a single cable to my tv. Only have to use receiver remote (which can also turn on television).

>Encryption, via HDCP, the NSA can't spy on what you're looking at on an hdmi monitor
Apparently NSA can't decrypt video messages. Who knew?
>>52174948
you forgot
>is blurry and scaled by default on all AMD cards (because overscan compensation is on by default even for PC monitors) and seems no one knows how to fix it properly
>>52174948
So you switched from digital to digital with audio and HDCP? Well done, baiter
