Are you sure you didn't install some random app or maybe a friend/family did?

Android is based on Linux and can't actually get viruses or malware so the only other way is you did something yourself, even if by accident.

No. Only thing the phone browser gets used for is checking her schedule. Last time it has been used for anything else was to pay for an order (fasttech or ebay) through paypal months ago, thought it was probably safer than my laptop. (have since decided to make all my occasional payments from a live cd)

Pretty sure it came from 1 weather. Checked the data usage when it started...140K checked it again after it stopped... 127M
