Do you use antivirus ?
Isnt it useless ?
>>

using anything other than malwarebytes on windows would be stupid, having common sense is enough

My bank offers free Kaspersky, would /g/ do it?
>>

Don't use it.
Its really just advertising, isn't it?
>>
What free antivirus do you /g/uys choose?
I use Avira and Malwarebytes, but honestly it feels like a sugar pill.

Retard*
How the fuck is that not in my phone dictionary
>>
I enabled Common Sense on my system, it's working pretty well so far.
>>
Is Avast shit? I've been using it for years, but every update it seems to consume more resources, it's getting intolerable now.
>>
>>52149054
It's offensive.

Malwarebytes, spybot s and d, super anti spyware, ms defender/mse.

I just run em all together every month or so

Even faggot is in my dictionary

I use my brain.

best antivirus is gnu/linux. Everything else is botnet
>>
>>52146336
Clamav or Malwarebytes are the only real choices for an antivirus. Using common sense basically nullifies their need, but if you are paranoid about viruses like me, their pretty useful and free.

Install arch.

No

Indeed they are. I have never seen Linux malware in the wild, I have never even heard of one targeting the desktop.
>>
>>52152995
Because you stick your head in the sand.
I don't know if an antivirus would catch that though.
I use clam on my mail server though.

>Because you stick your head in the sand.

I left the scene when I was literally 14 years old and back then we were all having enough fun with Windows virii to worry about Unix. I now read now and then about proof of concepts for exploiting Linux bugs (well, not even that, it's mostly userland shit), but I've never encountered malware in the wild from almost a decade of Linux development and system administration.

>I use clam on my mail server though.

Useless if you're using a Linux desktop to read your e-mail.
>>
no I don't even need an antivirus, and if I did I would just write something in C to do it for me

Hi, Anon.

Nope.

Yep
>>

it's the most unstable shit ever, protection is not everything

Do you guys pay for malwarebytes? If not, how do you get past the 30 day trial thing?
>>
>>52154137
an anon once showed off a php keygen for mbam. You could make your name as long as you wanted
>>
>>52154179
Is that the common thing around here? I wouldn't mind shilling out $20, but I'd prefer not to if possible.
>>
>>52147427
Yea I'm also with Barclays and I use it with Malwarebytes Premium.
Between them they ha both misses something that the other has caught.
Also when that happens I tend to boot from Kaspersky rescue disk and check the integrity of the OS too.
Basically I know what I'm doing and recommended the above.

Pay for it family. You get what you pay for in life.
>>

I use Linux and OpenBSD now, so I don't need this shit.

Back when I used Windows though I used A vast for antivirus, and Malware Bytes and Spybot Search and Destroy for malware. I really haven't kept up with any of them and how well they still work, but I was satisfied with Avast and Malware Bytes for the most part.

Spybot was a shadow of its former self by that point. It did usually pick up things malware bytes missed (and vice versa), and it had browser immunization which no other malware scanner had that at that time afaik. Still it had become pretty shitty over the years, and I'd imagine it's only gotten worse, so I probably would recommend bothering with it anymore. Back in the early 00s though, it was top notch, and no other scanner could really compete for a long time.
