Which Android phone should I get for 2016? I want a decent battery, fluid animations (CPU...) and a good selection of custom ROMs (at least CM12/13).

Pretty sure 5X/6P supports Band 20, not sure though.
One of the best Quality/price phone is the Opo, I got one this past months, i'm really satisfied, as a "hacker" (By that i mean tinkerer), it has a goood community, a lot of ROM compatible, (even NetHunter). great sceen, bettery. So for me the best one

Just got the G4, loving it so far except the top part of the phone gets very warm to the touch after a while of gaming (games such as Brave Frontier).
If you don't game on it, you can easily get around 4 hours SOT which is pretty decent. If you don't like that, the removable battery means you can have double or triple or even more of that, so you could in theory have as long as you want in battery life.
As for ROMs, I have no idea how the G4 compares to other phones in this category.
