Laptops are shit. No matter what you get you're buying a disposable and proprietary machine. If you ever have a problem, you'll be lucky to get a repair/RMA completed within two weeks (of not having your system).

You probably won't get any BIOS updates after the first year, and it's very likely that some major bugs in the firmware will never be fixed - so you have to hope your OS of choice has developers willing to work around them just for your model of laptop.

Beyond that, do you really want to work on a shitty bendy chiclet keyboard with a terrible touchpad and a tiny 13-17" monitor?

2. Open Sunday newspaper ads.
3. Is the laptop advertised under the price established in step 1? Buy that one.

Go to Newegg, Amazon, etc. and start adding filters until you find something you like. Then buy that one wherever it's cheaper.

If it works then it doesn't need any further updates. The BIOS is just there to initialise the hardware and then passes any further responsibilities to the OS.

look into lenovo y70-70 series. It is solid laptop. Has spdif, 17" screen, 300cm brightness across all sectors. touchscreen, kinda usless but also great in travel like a bus or train. and packs either i5 or i7 with either gtx 860/960. I have i7-4710hq and 860m and works great.
But you have to get rid of superfish or some other shit lenvovo installs on it
