It's as good as 2016, will voice commands surpass mouse and keyboard in practicality and intuitivity within our lifetimes? The last time I tried talking to my computer was back in later 2011 and it was useless for someone with at least 1 working finger, or toe.

99% of the applications for Siri, Google Now and Cortana is making funny videos about the top 10 funniest responses and easter eggs of the respective software. I've just seen a video of a guy who said he'd review Cortana and then spent a couple minutes getting it to sing a song over and over and over again. Also, "Siri/Cortana, who made you?" Seriously?

When are we gonna see actually useful commands beyond telling us the weather or setting an alarm? I'm thinking more Tony Stark and Jarvis stuff like controlling all sorts of smart home features while playing a video game or say, tell your computer to close the blinds while you're in the shower.

I already do this with my pebble connected to leaf.

I can alarm the house, unlock the house, etc

Well, the problem is that this doesn't actually work.

Maybe, maybe not anon.
>>
If it does happen people will just turn it off because of ma botnet blah blah blah

I can't find much about controlling a pebble via voice commands. Care to elaborate?

People are giving Apple their fingerprints already, do you really think they'll hesitate about anything at this point?

Inb4 mandatory sperm/ovum samples?

DNA samples for dating apps, just you wait.

Yo, I was thinking Government-mandated viable user gametes be the required price of admission to the interwebs in the future.

That way if it turns out they need a quick clone knockoff of you (and you're waifubot had incorrectly fried you beyond all recovery the night before) then society at large would still be good to go eheh.

That's exactly the useless gimmicky shit I'm talking about. Meanwhile Cortana can't close applications once she opened them. She can open netflix, but telling her to play the latest episode of house of cards will make her consult bing about "play the latest episode of house of cards".

I agree with you dude. What's the point in saying "Hey cortana, open netflix", then moving up to the searchbar, typing your query, watching it then closing it with the mouse and keyboard, when you can just hit start and type "netfl" just as fast, if not faster, and with more accuracy?

Until I can do everything with my voice, I dont want to do anything with it.

maybe when it gets to the point that you can have a natural conversation with the software, but even then, voice isn't a very intuitive way to do things like designing a spreadsheet or editing an image

My father, and my girlfriend often use the Google Talk thing to do the typing for them when they text. I don't because I'm a stuttering autist. So I think it's definitely useful.
I've also seen doctors use voice to text when typing a prescription, but then had to correct some words lol.
Tbh, I think the voice to text thing is the only real useful application for able bodied people. I don't see myself ever using siri or cortana to do regular shit like looking up Porn or something.

Not as long as the technology is burdened by copyright, patents and controlled by just 2 or 3 companies

Look up what happened with Dragon in the 90s, we could have been where we are now with voice recognition ten years ago if it weren't for software patent bullshit

Voice commands will never surpass the practicality of a keyboard ever. Nobody wants to say what they are doing on the internet out-loud unless it's simple google searches or math problems. There will probably be a different type of technology that will replace keyboards but it certainly won't voice commands. Also programming would be bitch through voice commands.
