>>

windows 10 has been perfect for me - with an SSD my computer literally boots in 3 seconds

I will be come Wednesday. No option on my new laptop to go to Win7 as far as I can tell. Going to install Enterprise though.

My favorite and first used OS of all time is Windows XP. I might've used 98 or Millenium a bit, but I was a little kid/ Just look how long it was around for, and it is still used to this day a little bit, even closing in on 2016.

Next OS I used was Windows Vista. It had a few annoying things with trying to play older games on it, but other than that it acted just like Windows XP. People loved to hate it.

Windows 8 I am using now (never really used 7 or 10), and sure the metro thing is annoying, but how different is it really than XP?

There's a file explorer, taskbar, desktop. It's the same shit we've known since Windows 95, just more makeup smeared across the pig's face.
I'm just curious, what's a real reason to hate on anything newer than 7, unless say you're trying to install your new Oculus Rift, or play a game. Do people just like to hate things because they're new?

Not mad, just genuinely curious this seemingly empty hatred for things new.
>>
Yes of course. Why would anyone use an outdated OS?

I'm using Enterprise LTSB. Pretty comfy.
>>
I am, although the fact that it deleted speccy without my permission when it updated pissed me off. I also don't know how to make certain programs default because windows settings doesn't detect shit like 7zip or mpc.

Slow down satan.

On-topic:
I use Win10 on my T100 for work, lotta stuff that's actually better and handy then older any older Windows OS. It just still has bugs like we are used too.
>>
I was using Win10 perfectly fine for about a month before it randomly corrupted my SSD overnight and got stuck in an auto repair loop.

Kind of horse shit, but it's not the end of the world
>>
>>52096032
I'm using it, no problems with it.
>>
It works way better than 7 for me and I blocked telemetry and the other stuff, so what's the problem?

Im not an autist neckbeard who feel superior because typing commands instead of clicking so i use Win 10 on my MSI gaming laptop and it had some hiccups but perfect now

I am. Works fine for me.

Me, though I'm thinking of going back to 8.1

I haven't tried 8.1 on my new rig. Windows 10 isn't bad, but I don't know. It makes me feel weird.
>>
LTSB N on my laptop, works very well and has made my computer easier to use as it's a shit computer and with less bloat it runs faster. It's a shame that spotify has turned into such a fucking resource hog but foobar2k is as fast as on my desktop. SSD made a big difference too
>>
>>52099779
Also essential fixes has been:
Get classic shell
Get rid of defender and onedrive, run anti-telemetry program
Disable lockscreen etc in group policy

After that its basically windows 7 but faster
>>
Still on 7.

After 22 years of exclusive Linux use, I bought a laptop for uni (first prebuilt since 2001) and it came with Windows 10. I haven't used Linux in a week now. Though I'm about to dual boot because my wireless nic won't fucking stay in 5GHz mode and that's the only way my router does 802.11ac so I'm stuck with 802.11g on Windows, but on Linux it'll stay in 5GHz mode.

>tfw 125/150Mbps connection won't break 40Mbps because Windows
>>
>>52099955
How old are you that you started uni after using Linux for 22 years
>>
>use windows 10
>ffmpeg re-encoding refuses to use more than one core on my hex core i7 for "security reasons"
>OBS lags when doing anything, drops frames
>abbyss web server refuses to use default port
>always looking for work arounds to things that were easy to do in w7

went back, never looked back

the ONLY thing i miss is the better multiple monitor management

Hey /g/, can you guys redpill me on Win10? I know it's obviously botnet but is it worse than Win8.1?
As far as I'm aware every second OS Microshaft brings out is relatively decent and 8.1 sucked dick, so 10 should theoretically be good.
>>
I use Windows 10 N Enterprise LTSB

8.1 isn't that bad and I'd recommend it for most people.
Get Classic Shell if you don't like the metro start screen.
10 is definitely worse and besides all the botnet, it's also slower.
>>
>>52100104
That what happens when you use linux.
>>
>>52101014
You are doing a bad job at that.
>>
Has anyone here experienced any difference in performance regarding games between 8.1 and 10?
>>
>>52101063
I've used 8.1 with classic shell for a couple of years now and I still hate it.
Is being slower the only disadvantage 10 has? And are the rumours of it sending all your info to Micro$oft true?
>>
>>52101102
yeah, some guy on youtube posted benchmarks.
10 was a little bit slower, but just barely.
i think that's the least of your worries if you use 10, though.
>>
>>52101149
>Is being slower the only disadvantage 10 has?
No, it also downloads stuff automatically (updates, metro apps) and it's still kinda buggy/unstable.
Major updates reset your settings and remove "incompatible" software automatically.
That's just off top of my head.

>And are the rumours of it sending all your info to Micro$oft true?
Not all your info, but some of it for sure.
Microsoft makes that perfectly clear, mind you. It's not just some rumor or speculation.
>>
>>52101152
I'm going to dual boot between a linux distro (dunno which, maybe debian testing) and Windows so I can play some games and do some work.

So speed is kind of important to me, botnet shit not so important. However updates aren't that important to me either.
>>
>>52096244
When people talk about their PCs booting in 3 seconds, they mean from the hybrid sleep thing, right? Because I have an 850 EVO and it's still 22 seconds from full power off to desktop. Hell, the POST takes more than 3 seconds alone.
>>
>>52101184
How does it remove incompatible software? I keep seeing claims but no proof to back it up. It's like the whole "it deletes pirated games" while many people are just pirating dozens of new releases just fine on w10.
>>
>>52101205
You might have to check that SSD. More than 3 seconds without the hybrid sleep is normal, but 22 is not.
>>
>>52101217
I had an 830 before this and it was 25 seconds. I think you guys are seriously underestimating on your boot times.
>>
>>52101205
22 is too much. I get about 8 seconds on my fedora PC.
>>
>>52101205
3 seconds is probably waking from sleep.
Most people who use 10 don't understand the difference.

>>52101217
If you include BIOS/POST time 22 seconds is normal, otherwise not with an SSD.
>>
>>52101207
It's been posted in many places, I don't know what kind of proof you need
http://www.ghacks.net/2015/11/24/beware-latest-windows-10-update-may-remove-programs-automatically/
>>
>>52101239
Why would anyone not include the POST as part of their boot? Are there people out there who only start counting once the Windows loading thing pops up? No wonder so many people say their PC boots in 3 seconds. My 22 second boot is like 19 seconds of staring at the ASUS splash screen and then 3 seconds of Windows startup.
>>
>>52097750
It deleted it because the version was incompatible with Win10, bozo. It clearly told you this too.
>>
>>52101263
Show people through the process maybe? How it -does- that automatically?

Like I said there have been false claims, so this can be added to the pile. You just need it to be heavily criticized.
>>
WIndows 8.1 best Windows.
>>
>>52101271
About 10 seconds here from the very moment I press the power button, without hybrid sleep enabled. It does take more time of course but not as much.
>>
>>52101271
>Why would anyone not include the POST as part of their boot?

Because POST can vary a lot depending on the mobo and mobo features enabled.
