So, I just ordered an 850 EVO. What am I in for?
failure in a few months
don't waste those precious writes
Good decision, owner of one reporting in. Make sure to set BIOS up properly (AHCI on, IIRC) and since like two weeks we've got Windows 10 support so Rapid mode can be engaged.

"to go over the writes limit, you have to do something like 5GB of writes a day for 5 years."
thx google
>>52086609
Why? 5 yrs warranty btw. I've got no idea why would it fail until you write on it constantly.
>>52086638
that's not that much really
in for some good placebo
>>52086624
op here, i have an intel chipset, and I've heard they're the best in handling ssds. Why is that? What is Rapid mode? Also, do I need to manually enable trim, or the samsung software will take care of that.
>>52086658
I think he talks about what warranty covers.
Just forget about pagefile.sys and hiberfil.sys.
>>52086601
your memes will load much faster
>>52086679
Intel i5 in Dell laptop here. Rapid mode makes it faster, I don't care how, so I don't know. I don't know about TRIM, I've got over provisioning and write cache buffer + flushing on.
>>52086638
It's more than that, closer to 50gb a day.
>>52086601
>What am I in for?
>A solid-state drive (SSD, also known as a solid-state disk although it contains neither an actual disk nor a drive motor to spin a disk) is a solid-state storage device that uses integrated circuit assemblies as memory to store data persistently.
>>52086601
the physical representation of planned obsolescence
>>52086601
It's fine. There are better SSDs available.
>>52086679
If you have the Samsung software on, it'll use TRIM even if your system has no support for it.
>>52087448
in this price range?
>>52086638
>5GB of writes a day
That is hilariously low
>>52086601
>he bought into the SATA SSD meme
>>52086601
good fortune and shorter load times in your chink trap fucker simulator.
Ayyy
>>52089069
my load times are already short if you know what i mean
>>52086601
sata SSDs are bottlenecked senpai, you should have just got a larger capacity Hitachi or an m.2
getting trolled by /g/ fud of course
>>52086601
Windows being fast and responsive, very fast boot, no "just started up" slowness.
dont fall for the trolls SSD are actually good if play mmorpgs or if you want fast OS load times.
if your just using your computer for facebook or youtube then yes its a waste of money.
I just installed windows onto a 850 EVO 256gb. SSD failure is just a meme, I've had so many different cheap SSDs in use and all of them work fine even after years of daily use.
What you are in for is another SSD. Lightning fast load times that make your system feel snappy as fuck.

" for THE SHORTER OF : (I) THE LIMITED WARRANTY PERIOD, WHICH DURATION IS SPECIFIED IN SECTION B OF THIS AGREEMENT, BEGINNING ON THE DATE THE PRODUCT WAS PURCHASED IN ITS ORIGINAL SEALED PACKAGING; OR (II) THE PERIOD ENDING ON THE DATE WHEN THE SSD HAS EXCEEDED ITS TBW (TOTAL BYTES WRITTEN) THRESHOLD AS MAY BE INDICATED BY SAMSUNG’S MAGICIAN SOFTWARE "
if you write too much it doesnt apply
>>52086601
Good value for money, a 5 year warranty, and TLC V-NAND that won't shit the bed.
The controller's not the greatest in the world under heavy load, and of course it isn't as fast as an m.2 PCIe (especially NVMe) - but those are currently overpriced. It's a very solid choice for the price and capacity.
One wonders how long HDDs have left in the market. That'll depend on the prices of the bigger ones, but if it doesn't come down fast, NAND will overtake it.
>>52089878
so how long till it shits the bed? 500 TB? More or less?
it's unlikely you will actually run out of writes. I've had my SSD for over 4 years and for most of that time used it as my main OS drive. for the rest of the time it's been a steam games drive and it has a lot of life left in it.
ok guise i'm hijacking this tread..
i'm looking at a 240 gig ssd upgrade.
bestbuy has
PNY CS1100 240 gig ssd for 79.99
and
Sandisk 240ssd plus. for 69.99
are there better deals out there? if not wich is the better drive?
>>52090026
150 TB for the 1000/500 gb version
I have a SanDisk SSD. How fucked am I?
>>52086601
>So, I just ordered an 850 EVO. What am I in for?
an unpleasant RMA process
>>52086638
That's only 9TB senpai.
Even 10x that endurance would be inadequate for a lot of uses.
Shit, hibernating with 32+GB RAM would murder that.
>>52086601
Got 1 for Xmas, cloned and tested ok, significant speed increase.
>>52091081
What software did you use to clone? I got one for xmas also.
>>52086638
They can do way more than that.
>>52091262
