Do you have a digital hoarding problem /g/?

>purchase new digital devices before you're ready
Ready for what?
>>
>>52080571
Yes, I have a very serious problem. Fortunately, I mostly hoard images. A terrabyte can go a hell of a long way.
>>
>>52080571
Since when did collecting become hording?
I like collecting movies and T.V shows, I think I have about 5 TB of them combined. Which is actually pretty small.
>>
>>52080571
The fuck? Hoarding useful info is like hoarding books, there are never enough. Fucking retarded web journalists
>>
nop, only using a little over 100G of storage space atm
>>
I've got 5tb of storage capacity
1tb goes to games, which is nearly full
1tb goes to what and my music library
1tb goes to porn
1tb goes to general shit I don't want to delete
1tb goes to tv/movies/anime
All spread across 2 2tb drives and a 1tb wd black for games
>>
>Hoarding is only a problem when goyim do it

Facebook, google hoarding data is okay though! Remember, jews can do nothing wrong.

>>52080883
>When you save every e-book, every movie and every TV season that you’ve “binge-watched” on your tablet or other digital device — isn’t that another symptom of being a digital hoarder? In the analog era, you would have donated used books to charity, hosted a garage sale to get rid of old albums you never listen to, or simply dumped these items in the trash.

I know nobody who sells off their physical book or CD or DVD/Bluray collection. Since when did that become hoarding?

I have 1 tb of programming and other educational tutorials. I don't view it as hoarding. The stuff i have mostly disappears in like a month from the internet and i could have never dl it again. If i gave my collection to any school they'd be grateful as fuck. I see it as collection books for personal library which you in the end leave to others (your kids, local community etc)

Hadopi doesn't do actually anything. They fired half of their employees due to budget constraint in 2014.

I have downloaded several Tbs of data and never got a mail. I don't plan to stop.
>>
I think there's a definite difference between actual hoarding (like collecting reaction images, anime, tv series and music) and storing useful and meaningful information like books and manuals, personal photos and videos, archive of your projects, co-hosting valuable web stuff, etc.

And even then there not too much wrong with having a media archive. Not everyone is consent with quality and assortment of the streaming services.

There are unlimited options in belgium.
I lived in Brussels for 9 years andI remember having no data cap (was with Voo, some phone/tv/internet package).
I know caps are the most common but you can (could?) just pay 5€ at belgacom to remove the limit and other providers had unlimited offers too

Granted, I did buy a 4TB HDD to download every steam game I own (About 350) onto. It barely worked (Had like 100GB left over) until I got several games in a row recently that were like 30-50GB each. Deleted all the shit I did not need or not planning to play.

To reach those caps you need to be constantly downloading at full speed, 12 hours a day everyday. I've only been throttled once, and I was literally trying to hit the cap that month, I filled up a 1 tb drive with the top seeded torrents, I formatted it and got another ~200gb. I did this around the mid of the month, so I probably used up ~300gb with normal usage. I received a letter to my house, seems like they just needed to verify I'm not hosting a streaming site or whatever. After 2 days I had once again access to full speed internet. I think this is just their way of subconsciously threatening the biggest torrenters to stop or to face the consequences (100Kbps, 12Kb/s).

I only really keep my favorite shit and I don't store porn on my computer. I usually shift-delete something then end up regretting it later when I want to consume it again.

yes i have 4 1Tb drive full of porn, games, movies. The only thing i can justify having is some games that are just too good to not play once in a while, and music.

>>
>>52081373

ostensibly, it is the actual downloading that is appealing and all the random shit downloaded is never put to use
>>
>>52080801
Why? What do you use them for after watching them? I do rewatch certain series quite a bit, but downloading them again when the situation rises has never been a problem. I easily lived off of a 80gb SSD for years.

I've never yet ran to a situation where I couldn't find something that I want to have again and I have a pretty self-proclaimed obscure taste due to being a tryhard hipster and a pervert. Femdom, crossdresser manga, chinese movies, vinyl rip indie hiphop, whatever.

I have a friend with huge stacks of external 2TB drives full of generic hollywood movies, encrypted. He has never even watched any of them since downloading. I really don't understand that.

I think digital hoarding is kind of like some sort of a manager game, just something to fidget around with. Feeling like you're doing something with your computer, when downloading loads of stuff to fill your bandwith with.
>>
I fail to see the issue with having a large local collection of files you use.
>>
>>52081312
>4,7gb
Thats like 2 hours of high quality 1080p anime
>>
What's wrong with storing shit?
Not everything will be easily available forever, someone's gotta keep a copy when few other copies already exist. Some stuff you just gotta keep because you might never find it again. Not everything is some netflix type shit you can stream whenever, and that isn't even forever. The online world is transient, ever changing, something available one year might be DMCA'd out of existence the next. Hell, look at youtube and try visiting videos from several years back out of old logs you might have, so many of them are gone forever.

Besides, 20+ years down the line I want to be able to look back at all my old shit and remember the good old days, just as people used to do with photographs. If not, how else can I remember the time I spent wasn't all for naught?
>>
>>52086333

But you can only do that because someone, somewhere has chosen to hold on to those things instead of watching/listening then deleting them. Be it p2p or something centralized, someone has to be storing the stuff for you to download it.
>>

Do I have a lot of digital stuff? Sure. A large collection of MSDN ISO's for my test lab, a few hundred gb of unsorted data, and about 70TB of movies in my Plex library. All full-frame un-compressed at about 50GB per.

Only thing I could be screwed if I lost would be the unsorted, because I don't know what all is in it.
>>
I only have 1.75 TB of data stored on my HDDs and SSD, but I have about 500 GB saved on blu ray because I only download whole disc Blu rays when I get movies.

Do know why it's being pushed this time?

I'll give you a hint: They want to you to pay for Netflix.
>Because Netflix is a controllable source, if there is media that is unwanted, it simply disappears - never to be seen again, can't have anon archiving things that you aren't supposed to be seeing anymore.
>>
datahoarding is a solution to my problem
>>
>>52080571
>literally all of your hoarding can be kept in a 3x15x10cm box
>can be backed up with an additional box and thus made virtually impossible to be destroyed by failure of either device
>bad
So you'll probably never rewatch Shoujo Kakumei Utena. It's proof that you did, and another backup so that we can restore dead torrents through ipfs
>>
>>52093002
that's not it

all it is is they want you to get less for more so you would spend more on less.

Either that or to influence the public opinion.
>>
The real question is how much physical tech shit you have hoarded.

I've got a bunch of ram sticks, old gpus and drives lying around that I know I'll never use but still keep for some reason. Same with old laptops that I'm too lazy to repurpose.

now I wish I had saved all of those text messages - I didn't realize it back then, but I was essentially writing a diary with a friend about our lives and it would be interesting to take a look at it again.

well, the NSA has it, so it's safe.
