I woke up this morning thinking about it. It's one of the few events I want to experience at least once in my lifetime but will never likely be able to.

Watching them on the fake youtube channel cccen is the next best thing i suppose.

I went last year and was majorly disappointed
Some talks are cool but chance that 2 good talks are at the same time

Besides the talks the thing as a whole is majorly sjw infested (things like obscuring the toilet gender signs)

Exactly. If you aren't interested in a lot of what they talk about at CCC, maybe /v/ is more your speed.
Not going to apologise for the fact that they don't talk about videogames and graphics cards.
I mean apart from the 3DS hack.

I also noticed a noticible decline in quality with last year's talks. It seems to be the unavoidable of fate of anything decent that hits mainstream.

>In her keynote address, Fatuma Afrah will talk about her life, being displaced twice. Combined with her perspective as professional refugee aid worker, her story will allow an unique insight in refugee’s lives and struggles. She will talk about her confusion arriving in Germany and how to adapt to even the most basic concepts of taking a train and paying for it. But we will also hear stories about her first encounter with liberality.

>Fatuma speaks of herself as a „newcomer“ to our society. It is us who should offer our knowledge of everyday life and our help – not only as a community of hackers. It is our goal to enable integration, using our experiences, share our freedoms and to actively offer our support to „newcomers“ like Fatuma.

The gender signs where on one or two of the main toilets only. all the others (most of them were pretty hidden anyways) were clear and clean. 30C3 was even worse with SJWs running around handing out sexism cards to anybody who said something sexist or offending. Of course it started a contest of who could obtain the most. I think the SJWs are still really small at the conference and are only tolerated, but not welcomed that much. Last year I was intrigued by the "political hipsters" a lot more. People who have no idea about tech and are only there to represent a political faction or similar.

You also don't go to the congress for the talks, you can watch them at home. Go there for the workshops, parties, and people. Last year's noisy square was a bit disappointing, I hope this year's is better. I also hope that the ftp servers hold a bit more than just porn. Too bad I don't go this year.

Not the same guy, but I was there.

Although I did shitloads of stuff, the camp was more of a big party for me this year. I was located right between the main talk-tent, idiopolis, and the italians GRAAPPPAAAAA!!!
Although I'd just had to cross the street to go to the most talks and I could here them from my tent too, I didn't go to one. The workshops were generally pretty nice, and the people really friendly. It was a bit different from the old ones because of the location, but I think they did a good job. I really liked it because you really live in a different world at the camp, whereas other people I know who where there really didn't like it and already wanted to go home after 2 days.

For partying, there was always a bit going on, but never any really big one (except for BER maybe, but that was the hipster part of the camp). There were also a lot of villages that had great DJs and music, but no people dancing because everyone was listening to the music while working on their stuff.

But that's just how I saw it, the camp was really big and 5 days (well, 8 in my case) were Although in general a lot of people complained that there wasn't enough hacking and too much people not "adding anything to the camp", I thought it was pretty fun. Because of the apparent lack of "hacking" my village even ended up on the Bild website.

32C3: Gated Communities

It is 2015, a large part of the population has withdrawn to heavily guarded islands of comfort.

Technological eco-systems created by single companies relieve us from the burden of choosing our own mobile phones, computers or fitness trackers and understanding how they work. We let their commercial interests decide, which media outlets, news bulletins and expressions of opinion we notice and which are accepted by the globally valid terms of service.
Filter bubbles take the pain away of thinking for ourselves. Strongly opinionated agitators provide acceptable sources of information and handy concepts of an enemy.
Communities of states, just recently lauded with a nobel peace prize, take the moral duty from us, having to think about the costs of our wealth: They erect walls, experiment with biometrics and discuss firing orders – finally easing the fear they monger every day.
Every day politics are taking away the burden of social responsibility, participation or even scrutiny: By arranging treaties behind closed doors setting in stone for which there appears to be no alternative.

Transnational surveillance systems help us to pre-emptively separate our fellow human beings into good and evil, beneficials and useless ones. I our cozy cherished sociosphere full of barely prevented terror attacks and career defining social networks we devotedly seize the opportunity never to cultivate a conscience of our own. Subversives, dissenters and outliers disturbing our harmony are automatically and systematically blocked, arrested, harrassed or placed in their very own filter bubble.
The guardians of our networks and browsers take away the difficult decisions, which connections are expendable. We get to enjoy those providers that can afford us and are supplied with exactly the services and speed we are entitled to.

The Congress gives us the space to do the things ourselves. To discuss for ourselves, to think for ourselves, to decide for ourselves and to tinker on our own. Our own gated community helps us against some of the bullshit bingo of the outside world.

Why don’t you come out of yours and visit us?

Depending on what you use. If there's a popular talk about how to exploit something on your specific laptop or hardware, you're screwed. Otherwise, I'd just advise to do a fresh install before and after you go the the camp/congress, use up-to-date software, and don't use any storage medium containing any inportant files/information with that install.
There should be enough info about this in the event wiki (How to survive the congress afaik)

Today harassment and bullying seems like it's just "someone said something mean to me on twitter"

I know these people were sheltered for a long time and they haven't visited a public school or their parents haven't done a good job of teaching them how to ignore people who they know in real life that may be assholes to them, let alone people online who could be at any part of the fucking world.

The irony is that the same people who talk so much about freedom of speech don't want this freedom when it affects them personally. In an ideal world you want faggy mcfaggot to call you a fag so people can judge on that, rather than fucking censor him and be all "oh he's a bully please twitter administration team do something about it".

I'd rather have a kid yelling at me for 24 hours straight than put tape on his mouth because I might feel a little bit offended.

it's a clever hacker double meaning thing:
1) ipod type app stores that stop people making their own programs/code
2) countries that don't let millions of terrorists freely enter

obviously both are equally evil

Nothing wrong being on the activist side, you can learn and support the community :)

This is not rocket science, it just requires knowing a bit theory. Basically, if you're willing to learn, you can git gud too.

Joanna's cis, dummy. (As if that matters.)

Her talk was OK, but a little depressing (given the content), and nothing really new if you're already following what she's doing. Still concerned about exfil, but auditability would be nice. The Intel ME opacity makes me really want to reverse-engineer it, but I swore I'd never touch HF/fuming nitric acid again when I retired. My hands shake too much.

There's a lot of boring purple (i.e. political shit) this year, as >>52081785 points out, but they've got at least some of that wrong: the djb/Tanja Lange talk is about post-quantum crypto and will explain McEliece and hash-based signatures (maybe including the stateless ones). agl also did a great article on RLWE. https://www.imperialviolet.org/2015/12/24/rlwe.html

I'm looking forward to Laackmann/Janke's talk. And also smea's talk: he's dropping an exploit this year, Wii U I heard.

Wish I could be there, but as usual I have a stinking cold.

>And also smea's talk: he's dropping an exploit this year, Wii U I heard.
The Console Hacking talk is about the 3DS, am I missing something?
Hearing about something new would be amazing, but I expect the talk will be enjoyable regardless.
>>
>>52082401
Fair enough: I've taken strong cough medicine for said cold, so I may very well have mixed the two up! smea does have something, I know that.

Always enjoyed the console hacking talks, although some years are better than others. 27c3's fail0verflow talk was particularly fun: https://youtu.be/PR9tFXz4Quc

I rewatched that one just yesterday. Honestly I can't remember a low-level hardware talk that I didn't enjoy thoroughly.
That's why I'm also really looking forward to the Amiga talk (https://events.ccc.de/congress/2015/Fahrplan/events/7468.html)

tbqh these 'hacker' conferences have become a joke. In the past few conferences there was a tranny talking about cyber bullying and such - not that there's anything wrong with that but its not really a technical talk or something I'd find of interest.

Just sayian.

>>
>>52084298
You'd get fucking lynched. You don't talk about how jews aren't that bad in nazi germany.

That said, if I were to give a talk, I'd start with a parody- I'd start trying to tell people that jews aren't bad and we shouldn't kill them, then move onto how white males aren't that bad and we shouldn't kill them. The SJWs, when they attack me, would identify themselves as nazis.
>>
>>52084320
It's investigation. You expect them to have cracked china's secrets open?
>>
>>52084320
They have a pretty good idea of how it finds and blocks tor at least. Its not like China is advertising their methods, this is all done through testing which takes weeks/months/years

I want to watch that but the amiga and cable modem talks might be cool too. Can't decide
>>
>>52084656
Beyond your cable modem

I used to hack modems a few years ago so it should be interesting and I think I know what the talk will be about, SNMP protocols etc
>>
>>52084732
same
it's about a huge fuckup the cable companys and reused master passwords had which means potential for many lulz
>>
>>52084732
You mean guess passwords?
literally few years back every modem could be easly accessed from the outside with telnet/ssh enabled with standard passwords.
>>
>>52084656
Been reading 1984 these last days. I hope this is going to be good.
>>
>>52084894
You thought it was just every modem? haha more like every router, device, internal tv stuff (my provider did DVB-C) CMTS's the list was endless lol

You could map the internal network by starting with the ToD server address and working from there.

Fun times :)
>>
>>52084697
I'm watching it for entertainment you piece of shit.
Is fun forbidden now too?
>>
So cable is basically garbage, does no one know about these glaring flaws? How has this not been abused by someone?
>>
>>52085211
you usually can't register your own modems with the German cable providers, but I guess that shouldn't stop anyone. no idea
>>
>>52085211
Not many know about it since you need to have a rooted cable modem like he has and you need to be on a badly configured network.

My ISP "fixed" this or at least made it harder for me to care, a few years ago. Interesting to see this is still a thing in 2015.
>>
>>52085264
And after all, most of people cared only free internet access.
>>
>>52085234
If you steal the certs of another modem on the network you can "register" it yourself lol
