what do you guys use for achieving? I am using FreeArc but I keep getting an error saying freearc error write error (disk full? ) on compression algorithm tempfile, there is plenty of space on my HDD, don't know why it's saying that

I typically use WinRAR. Used FreeArc in the past, it has much better compression but found it to be buggy and the UI is kinda confusing.

winrar but I don't really store anything in compressed archives. HDD are so cheap that it's not worth it. Also the compression ratio is only good with text and images.

7z has a higher compression ratio than winrar, it's faster, it opens and creates more formats (winrar = zip and rar, 7z = zip, rar, 7z, iso, wim, tar, bz, gzip, etc). It's also "free as in freedum" open source. It also has benchmark utilities and stronger encryption than winrar
