The fx-6300 is still plenty good enough to play most vydia. You should consider getting a better gpu first.
The single thread performance between the i5-2500k and fx-6300 is not huge so you might only get like ~5 more fps on average. Less if the game can properly use 6 threads.
A real upgrade even for vydia would be to go with haswell or wait for zen. You should probably do the latter since Zen might have haswell i5 performance with only 4 physical cores on the cheap.
