Hello
>>
went to visit my little brother to see his new pc and it was the first time i ever felt buyers remorse over my case (corsair 400r)
mine's not a full tower but i still find it too big and heavy, his case was like 1/3 the weight and a much more manageable size for moving (might have been the 100r not sure) and as long as you're not using 50 drive bays you can still fit max length gpus

anyone else feel the same?
i realize this might not be a concern for anyone if you're never moving your pc

Are you just using Speccy to monitor that, or some other program? I know Speccy is particularly bad but I'm not sure if any other programs can measure temps accurately, AMD uses some weird alogorithms and shit with FX chips.

I suppose if you're room is stupidly cold and you rarely do anything even close to CPU intensive you're CPU could be at 18c most of the time.

>>
>>52071529
What kind of temps do you get?
>>
>>52072151
Disclosure: you're talking to the guy that designed it.

Most importantly is to do your research. Check the compatibility/size restriction stuff on the website carefully. Look at lots of different builds, and decide what kind of build you want to do. There are a lot of different ways you can build in the M1, but you do have to understand that going down one path will preclude some configurations, so you have to decide what's important to you.

In general, I recommend 2.5" drives (both SDD and mechanical) over 3.5", since they free up a lot more room and run cooler and quieter.

Nvidia cards are usually a better choice than AMD in this case, again because they run cooler and quieter, and nvidia has the better reference blower, which is best for the case. Also take note of the size restrictions, and avoid taller (AKA wider) cards.

An SFX PSU is best, and practically required with a longer GPU. The Silverstone SFX units are a bit of a crapshoot, unfortunately, as they seem to have a lot of noise issues relating to the fans and/or fan control. Within the next few months we should see new SFX-L units up to 700W from Silverstone, and a new Corsair 600W as well, but as of right now I'd probably recommend getting a High Power, Sharkoon, or Chieftec 500W SFX-L. All of those are manufactured by High Power/Sirfa, and are the same unit as the Silverstone 500W SFX-L, but without the semi-fanless mode that has been problematic.

CPU cooling is up to you; the Noctua NH-U9S and D9L both fit the available space nicely and are pretty decent coolers. If you need beefier cooling, you can go with an AIO, but keep in mind you do want a slimmer rad, and the block should have swivel barbs (the Corsair H100i GTX, for example, won't easily fit due to the tubing coming straight out of top of the block).

It's a good idea to toss a fan or two in as a case fans to set up an air current through the case and manage dust. At least one 120mm fan on the side or bottom is ideal.
>>
what's the point of cramming all your SSDs and HDDs behind the motherboard?

le huge empty case meme
>>
>>52072575
>Disclosure: you're talking to the guy that designed it.
squee

I must admit, I was leaning toward putting a 3.5" drive on the side bracket. This is because I was already planning on putting a NH-U9S in for CPU cooling which, as you know, frees up a nice amount of space on the right of the bracket.

I currently own a 970, but it isn't a reference card. (Asus Strix).
Is this a deal breaker?
>>
>>52072654

You can certainly do that, and it will work fine.

>I currently own a 970, but it isn't a reference card. (Asus Strix).
>Is this a deal breaker?

It is, unfortunately. The Strix cards are almost all too tall (at the higher end of the range, anyway). See this post: http://hardforum.com/showpost.php?p=1041779833&postcount=17298

That's a shame about the card. All because of that stupidly large heat-pipe.
I'll have to look into getting a reference card at some point.

But thanks for all the info nonetheless!

You can buy cables, but you're right--they're expensive as fuck, especially considering they're almost purely for vanity.

Almost
>>
>>52073230
I know you can buy them from say cablemod but I'm referring to some of the others in this thread(>>52063413). Especially the multi-colored ones looks like a truly custom job. Also some PSU have noise caps built in to the cables for better power delivery and I haven't seen a place where you can actually get those custom sleeved other than doing it yourself. I have read on forums people tearing down the cables that come with their psu and re-sleeving with the caps.

There is a fine-line between vanity and autism. I'd say custom sleeving skirts pretty close to that line.

>>
>>52065538

your pcie cables need to be pushed up because they are making the vga bend.
>>
>>52064948
>>52073660
They also have a steel backplate covering the back. Gives the mobo a hefty weight.

Just changed some stuff. Pulled the ssds from behind the motherboard tray and put them in the HDD rack to play with the others.

Bought an 850 evo 500gb for myself for xmas. Rerouted the gpu pcie wires to plug into the card from the top rather than the bottom. Unscrewed the fans and turned them so they're not pulling on the wires so much.

All in all it was a matter of "lemme just install my ssd" to "holy shit I routed the wires like this last time? Why the hell didn't I use more zip ties?"

Only positive I'll say is your choice of case, and the fact you're using a Silver Arrow cooler if I'm not mistaken. Don't see those anymore. Otheriwse you should be ashamed.

Why?
>>

that cooler looks like something out of fuggin mad max, noice.
>>
>>52075547
not it ain't. I had the morpheous on a 290 of my own at one point. All the weight and where the cooler mounts is the same 4 bolt pattern as the stock cooler. The morpheous doesn't attach to the card anywhere other than that 4 bolt section. GPU PCB might just be bent from the stock cooler and lack of blackplate.
>>
>>52075567
because the vast majority of people are taking pics with the phones on default camera settings and just post them from here. Check the resolution on a bunch of the pictures. 4k+ resolution.

Personally the only time I bother to edit/crop or otherwise change my picture is if the website I'm trying to upload to complains about file size. If not idgaf.
>>
>>52074793
Yeah I believe my new mobile will fit the colors of my GPU better and have an I/O shield.
>>
>>52075490

Its a 290x and yes, thats the silver arrow. Cooling my 8320e at 4.7ghz (1.428v).

I am struggling to get the chip to 4.8ghz though, it keeps failing IBT testing.

>>52075520

The intel fan was stolen from a different computer as I found it works as a nice way to cool the vrms when putting watercooling levels of voltage through them.
>>
>>52075658
sounds good, which one did you get?

You blind?
>>
>>52076748
I'd recommend the first one, but add a small (120GB or 250GB) boot SSD.
>>
>>52076750
Maybe i should be after looking at that
>>
>>52076762
I was thinking about it, but what are suggested uses for the SSD? So many people suggest to have a SSD but it feels like I'd either JUST use the SSD, or NEVER use the SSD, and splitting shit 50/50 for it would seemingly just be a pain in the dick more than it would help.

I'm willing to take the offer but kind of need further reason to get it other than it being slightly faster than the HDD
>>
>>52076748
>>52076762
>>52076790
Forgot to mention, too, that my main uses on my computer is gaming, recording, editing videos, and when I do get a good PC; streaming.

>>52076750
>>52076653
And jesus christ what is that
>>
>>52076790
The use that most people have is to use the SSD as a boot drive + most used programs (preferred web browser, etc) just to make the system feel much more snappy than if it was booting from a magnetic disk. My strategy is to install programs and put files on the SSD, and then put games on my 2TB HDD. For your use case, I would recommend putting all your videos and stuff on your hard drive, but put your programs on the SSD.

The R9 Nano clearly beats the GTX 970 for price/performance, so why do people compare the 970 to a 390?
>>
>>52076873
I am not but nice try
>>
>>52076825
Looks like insulation.
>>
>>52076889
Because the 390 competes directly with the 970 as far as price. the R9 Nano is 300 dollars more than the 970 in some cases.

How are NXZT's AIOs? I mostly use Corsair because that's all I've ever used since the H50 came out. I assume all AIOs are mostly created equal.
>>
>>52077727
Corsair and NXZT use the exact same radiator setup. They're both made by Asetek, shit even my 980ti hybrid uses radiators by them.

You know what rustles me with this, OP. You've got no DVD drive, and have done fuck all with the space. I understand people use discs less and less. But once in a while a family member asks for a copy of something, or I need to burn an installation for someone. Having a DVD drive is still useful unless you're a friendless basement dweller. Plenty of builds now sacrifice DVD in an ITX build or water cooled build, but yours is neither. Just seems you've missed a load of functionality, for zero gain.

>>52063207
If that's all the RAM you're putting in the system, you should move one stick over a slot.
