Normalfag web browsing machine. Is the HP stream 11 the only good choice?
>>
HP Stream. Not enough RAM. Storage is not upgradable. CPU an Atom based Celeron....

I almost think the old HP DM1s mite of been better than the new stuff. :( 2015 was a bad year for cheap but good laptops.
>>
>>52061271
Get a used business laptop
>>
>>52061271

Early Broadwell Atom laptops are bad. They are locked to a 32-bit OS and it's really difficult to install Linux on them, though Windows runs fine for web browsing.

I'd suggest looking at later 64-bit Broadwell Atom laptops if you want a newer one with good battery life, otherwise you could buy a used Thinkpad which could handle web browsing and much much more.
>>
Chromebooks could be had for $50 on Black Friday so ur a lil late bro
>>
>>52061309

Broadwell 64-bit Atoms are known as Cherry Trail, while the 32-bit ones are known as Bay Trail.
>>
>>52061311
but can you install loonix on it? Completely remove errything?
>>
>>52061309
I mighht install linux or Win 7 on it, and I don't want Windows 10. What are my options? Is a chromebook worth it? Will I be able to remove wipe the hard disk and then install linux exclusively? What about windows?
>>
>>52061319
With a bit of work I think so, but I'd just use chrome personally.
>>
>>52061316
Bay Trail Atoms are 64-bit though

Get an OLPC, it's made with poor children in mind so it would be perfect for you.
>>
>>52061271
I can recommend an acer es1 e311. 13 inch, battery life 6 hours, ssd drive and 4gb of ram, comes with no os. Literally cheaper than this hp slut
>>
What about asus x205ta eebook?

Is this botnet?
>>
>>52061271
Used thinkpads are pretty cheap. get ubuntu on it for your grandmother.
>>
Dont even consider using a machine for Facebook unless it's got an i7 minimum.

Are atoms good for HTPC? I heard nexus player has one in them.

Op didn't asked about botnet, you memespouting retard.
Chromebooks have better support for linux, longer battery life, they don't heat up and they are silent. So they are great as web browsing machine.
>>
>>52061303
this, you can pick up a nice dell latitude or thinkpad for cheaper than a hp stream and it will destroy it in terms of performance.

>>52061271
Used Thinkpad/Elitebook/Latitude is always the answer.
>>
>>52061316
Cherry Trail has Broadwell based graphics, but the CPU portion is still an Atom derivative. Bay Trail used Ivy Bridge based graphics, but again, Atom CPU cores.

nice logical fallacy bro
>>

What?
>>
>>52063006
your entire post answers question that were not asked.

who asked you if atom cpus were atom cpus? because that what your post boils down to.
>>
>>52063053
I'm saying they're not really Broadwell since they're not using Broadwell CPUs.

Also, both are 64 bit, but devices that use them often use 32 bit OSes since they have slightly lower RAM and storage consumption.
>>
>>52062842
Thinkpads are also durable as fuck with spill proof keyboards
>>
>>52063213
This fag thinks he's some sort of mod hero.

Op go for a nice dell latitude. I just bought my parents a couple of e6320 for $165 each. You can find great i5 latitudes cheap. Don't make the mistake I did however, some laptop i5 are dual core, I thought they were all quad.
>>
>>52062859
But I run Microsoft Office on my Chromebook. I never thought /g/ would be stupid enough to fall for some Pawn Shop ads
>>
>>52063300
>some laptop i5 are dual core
They are all you stupid fuck
>>
>>52063383
i5-6300HQ and i5-6440HQ are both quad core laptop chips.
>>
>>52061271
HP is the least reliable brand on the market. dont bother unless you get a elitebook. Try Asus
>>
>>52061271
pretty much this >>52061303

Really the only gripe I have with older business laptops is some models have some seriously shitty after market batteries. Make sure which ever model you get has a good aftermarket for that stuff.
>>
>>52063300
e6400 better then 320
>>
>>52061616
Is a good choice in that range
>>
>>52063771
Might as well buy a small desktop computer. Business "laptops" are shit since they lack all the pros of normal laptops.

Enjoy the weight, shitty battery life and outdated screen

What model would be good if you would like to dick around testing wifi if you know what I mean :^)
>>
Lenovo G50-80

i5-5200U - HD Graphics 5500
4 Gig 1600 Mhz RAM
128 Gig SSD
1080p 15.6 inch display
4h Battery
450$

Should I? Anything would be an upgrade from my old HP which idles at 65c and can barely keep one tab open without freezing.
>>
>>52066000
>4h battery
Into the trash it goes. Come back when your "laptop" can handle one day without being charged
>>
>>52061271
Acer C740 is better

Just get a used x220 for fuck sake. Are you literally posting from a bestbuy right now or something?
>>
>>52061303
This. I bought refubrished X61s as a typing and 4chan machine for like 100 dollars and I'm absolutely happy with it
>>
>>52066154
How that battery life? God damn you people who buy used business laptops for shitposting have to be retarded.
>>
>>52066040
If we overlook the battery, since it will sit plugged in on a shelf, hooked to the TV 99% of the time.
>>
>>52066217
Why dont you buy a small fucking desktop computer you fucking fag?
>>
guys, this is the thread i have been looking for

I'm busy looking for a decent 11/12 inch netbook that I can use when I'm travelling around. Tablets are not very useful to me as I would still like to do some dev work and maintain our company's git repo etc.

What is currently the best netbook on the market for under $300?

I've just come across a lot of chromebooks and possibly some stuff from Asus.
