HALP /g/ Is It time to switch to ATI ?

store near me has a Gtx960 2gb for $210 and it also has a R9 380 4BG for $260
is the R9 performance worth the extra cost and also are ATI drivers good now ? I seem remember Nvidia always had better drivers

And would 4BG of video ram make that much difference on a 42inch TV than 2GB

also I have a 500Watt power suppy is it enough for the R9? would it take more power than my gtx760
>>
>>52059213
i would get the r9380
its a no brainer
>>
960 2gb
>>
I use an R9 380 and it's not bad at all.
>>
>>52059238
You're the no brainer here, look at the price difference
>>

>Is It time to switch to ATI ?
called Radeon now, sometimes AMD Radeon.
>is the R9 performance worth the extra cost and also are ATI drivers good now ? I seem remember Nvidia always had better drivers
AMD got their act together on windows pretty well, seems good to me
>And would 4BG of video ram make that much difference on a 42inch TV than 2GB
on a 1080p TV, yes, in some newer games.
>also I have a 500Watt power suppy is it enough for the R9? would it take more power than my gtx760
depends on the rest of your system, but likely. it also will use more power than a 760, pretty sure.

>And would 4BG of video ram make that much difference on a 42inch TV

I would be more worried about the latency of that TV compared to a PC monitor regardless of what GPU you pick. The lag is real.

Got a sapphire r9 380 here and no problems so far.
>>
>>52059267
an extra $50 is worth it
I have the 960 strix 2GB and yes its alright but I wouldnt settle for it now I was choosing between those 2
>>
>>52059213
If you have the cash go for the Radeon.

Your screen size doesn't matter what would be the major player in performance in gaming and future proofing would be your resolution.

I have a 3gb 280x right now and it runs everything I throw at it in 1080p perfectly.
>>
>>52059213
I got the powercolor r9 380 4gb for 159 through Newegg during a black Friday sale. Great for that price
>>
>>52059213
>also I have a 500Watt power suppy is it enough for the R9? would it take more power than my gtx760

If it is a 80+ rated power supply, then at 500 Watts it could power a Fermi card, let along an R9.
>>
Also about the power, I'm using my powercolor with a 500w Silverstone gold sfx-l psu and no issues. Paired with gigabyte a7fa88xn-wifi, 16gb gskill ares, and an a10-7850k. Literally nothing else other than some usb devices

Op I'd order the 380 on newegg for $200

newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007709%20601119284%20600565504%20600565674%20600565502%20600007787&IsNodeId=1&bop=And&Order=PRICE&PageSize=30

or
a 290X for slightly more

meant 380x
>>
>>52059445

im in Canada so the store is by far the cheapest option especialy since newegg.ca stil charges shipping
>>
>>52059213
The real question is why are you making such a small upgrade from a 760 to a 960 anyway? A 970 should be the minimum upgrade you, or wait for the budget of the next generation coming out which will be miles better
>>
>>52059408
what he says
i was running a overclocked 780ti on my 550 before changing my gear and it ran fine.
>>
>>52059565
when with the "next gen" coming out

kinda really disappointed with the 760 on my 42'tv right now

the r9 380 should run Dx12 fine right
>>
>>52059608
The 1000 series should be out this year, a 960 is only about 10% faster than a 760, but when the 1000 series is out you should be able to get much more bang for your buck
>>
>>52059582
why is the 780ti more expensive than the 970?
>>
>>52059273
>called Radeon now, sometimes AMD Radeon.
It was called Radeon back then too, you fucking retard. ATI used the Radeon brand for several years before AMD even considered buying them.

>it also will use more power than a 760, pretty sure.
No, it won't, disgusting Nvidia shill

>>
>>52059213

What the hell, why R9 380 more pricier than 960?
>>
I'd rather wait for the 960 Ti.
>>
>>52059213
Get a 380x, it should cost as much as the 380.
>>
the 960 was garbage you can get a 760 running like a 960 go amd
>>
>>52062512
A 4 gb 960ti would kuck 3.5gb 970, I wonder how are they going to handle that
>>
>>52062550
I thought the 128-bit bus bandwidth on the 960 was really shitty and limiting
>>
>>52062566
960ti is rumored to be a cut down GM204.
>>
>>52059708
I laugh everytime they sell it at that price. They want the right amount of oney to buy themselves 980 or Ti.
>>
I went for a 280x 3gb instead of a 380 because I could grab it for 150€.

I'm not too disappointed, it's just I have to use afterburner because otherwise it thinks it's fine to reach 80c and put the fans at 40% max
>>
>is the R9 performance worth the extra cost
no
>and also are ATI drivers good now ?
no
>500Watt power suppy is it enough for the R
no
>>
>>52063683
Wrong Faggot I use my r9 380 with a 500w.

Kill yourself
>>
>>52059273
>>52059213
>The televisions fucking SIZE not RESOLUTION effecting performance.
>>
Not op, but I can get the 380 4gb for ~210 € and the 380x for ~250 €.
Is the 380x worth the extra 40€?
>>
>>52065380
the problem is that it'll go on forever
>why get the 380 when the 380x is 50€ more?
>why get the 380x when the 390 is 50€ more?
>why get the 390 when the 390x is €50 more?
buy the best card in your budget that plays the games you want
>>
>>52059267
the 380 also has 2 GB version
>>
So what's the deal with AMD cards doing so well with DirectX 12? Is there any point in getting an Nvidia card now?

>Nvidia studies for the exam
>AMD studies the course
when you pay developers to help your product/handicap your competition's instead of putting that money into R&D, that's what you get. AMD cards have always been the most 'futureproof' because they a) don't get gimped by drivers 2 years after their release and b) they're genuinely good, not just meme cards that rely on gameworks to be competitive

>>52065199
OBVIOUSLY im gonna be playing at native resolution
