Quick question.
Been thinking about getting my step dad a domain name for his security webcams since he likes to stare at them pointing at nothing for hours on end. Doesn't have a static IP so thought this would be a good gift.
Now I get the gist of it, but confused on the purchasing aspect of the process. Do I just need the domain name then tell the router to send traffic to the the domain? Or is there more shit I have to buy?
yeah, if you buy a domain you can make it point at something
so he probably goes to some numeric ip (13.37.69.69) to watch his cams. using the website you can make dadspervcams.xxx redirect to his numeric ip
btw, I suggest using hover instead of godaddy if you don't want to support literal fags.

The fuck is wrong with him.

if it doesn't work, just ask for a refund.
or first try with a free domain to make sure it works

Trust me, I know godaddy is shit.
Now since the IP is dynamically assigned, if the IP changes it won't cause a problem, will it?

Idk, he's one of those guys that when he see's a buddy with something, he wants it too.
I don't care, easy present imo.

Went ahead and used hover.
We'll see what happens. Thanks.

Don't buy a domain you fuck.
Use noip and get dadsacuck.noip.me and setup your router to use it.
HOLY shit this website is retarded
Why would you want to make it public by associating it with a domain name? Further, that wouldnt solve the issue of a dynamic IP. Domains just point to IP addresses. When he gets a new one it will still point to the old one. He'd have to get the new one and enter it in every time.
>stepdad
So you're his wife's son?

why do we even use domains anymore?
bookmarks, history, google search have made domain names obsolete

Try Dynamic DNS first, before you invest into an actual domain name.
wayyyy overkill, op
use a free dns, dont shell out shekels for a full on domain name
you can get something like faggotwhoisobsessedwithcameras.freedns.com or something.
