I planning on buying this BookShelf pair:
http://images.klipsch.com/R-15M_-_Spec_Sheet_635530199326096000.pdf
This Center Channel:
http://images.klipsch.com/R-25C_-_Spec_Sheet_635604452890430000.pdf
And This SUB:
http://images.klipsch.com/R-12SW_-_Spec_Sheet_635424116723382000.pdf
All I need is an amp/receiver but I don't know what wattage I should be looking for.
Is 735W enough or do I need more?
This is the one I'm looking at right now:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/yamaha-aventage-735w-7-2-ch-network-ready-4k-ultra-hd-and-3d-pass-through-a-v-home-theater-receiver-black/6869129.p?id=1219667165449&skuId=6869129
Any help is severely appreciated.
I'll post the rest of the pics of the set up I want.
/g/ pls..
pls respond
;_;
I've been saving up cash and looking at getting a start at a home media setup myself.
Probably gonna grab a set of HTD Level Three's (two bookshelves + mid) along with a Marantz receiver and an undetermined sub.
The only part I can't figure out is actually the furniture for it all to stand on. Why the hell is it so hard to find a TV stand/home theater cabinet sort of deal that has a spot for a midspeaker that's not tiny? It's even harder if you're looking for metal+glass instead of particle board shit.
>>52037181
That amp is absolutely overkill unless you are planning on expanding your system in the future
What box material?
My bet is on wood, people say plastic is shit but there are some nice epoxy stuff.
>>52037181
You can get better speakers than those klipsch's.
Why two front and a center? go for a pair of nice towers + a sub if you must.
>>52038515
Not the OP but would a tower do as well as 2.1 + mid at making dialogue and speech sound nice?
>>52037181
that amp is not really a good amp
the speakers are not really good speakers
you should do more looking around at reviews, and also prices on craigslist, to get an idea of how much to spend

I'm OP.
Damn I had given up on this thread.
The reason for these speakers is that I'm getting a VERY good discount on them.
$100 for the pair of bookshelves
$100 for the center channel
and $170 for the subwoofer
All brand new from directly from Klipsch.
The Floorstanding would be nice but lets just say she doesn't want anything "gigantic" in the living room...
The amp is the only thing I don't really get a discount on which is why I'm having trouble on deciding what to buy.

>All I need is an amp/receiver but I don't know what wattage I should be looking for.
>Is 735W enough or do I need more?
First of all there are lies, damn lies, and wattage.
This is the wattage you need to be looking at:
>Rated Output Power (20Hz-20kHz, 2ch driven)
>90 W (8 ohms, 0.06% THD)
Upfront wattage is measured at only 1kHz, 1ch, and 10% distortion which not only has nothing to do with listening to your speakers in the real world, and it would sound like rape.
In english: You have an average wattage of 90 watts per channel, but only in stereo. When it's divided among 7 channels instead of 2 for surround sound, you will get even less, a lot less. But Using a powered subwoofer takes the 20hz-80hz range off your amp, freeing up more power to use on your bookshelf speakers. But someone would have to measure the amp to really know what it puts out. And I don't know the math to figure out how much wattage you need based on speaker efficiency. In fact I don't know much, but you aren't getting much help here for the time being. Just know that you are more likely to blow out your speakers with an underpowered amp than an overpowered one. Pushing a weak amplifier too hard will clip and distort the signal, which will actually damage your speakers sooner than a clean signal from a strong amplifier will. If an amp really is too powerful for your speakers, it will become way too loud before they start causing damage, unlike a weak amplifier. Yamaha amps have a volume cap you can set if you're worried about you or someone else accidentally turning them up too high.
>>52040479
I don't see how you can lose with those prices. Just don't get a 7.1 receiver if you don't plan on using all the channels one day.
Also one more important thing. The only good center channel is one that matches the left and right speakers exactly, or else the image won't work right. Wouldn't a matching center be called the R-15C? Not 25?
>>52043208
Comment too long
Horizontal layout speakers have problems, I'm not an acoustics expert so I can't explain it. We have them because they fit nicely in furniture and under or over TVs. It's debatable, but if you can, and it works with your discount, I'd use a normal L/R bookshelf speaker and put it under the TV as high as you can, and at the same depth as L/R speakers. The trade off is the source will be low, but it will blend perfectly and sound great. Ideally you would have an acoustically transparent projector screen so it could go right behind it, that's how it works at the theater.
>>52040479
the speakers are good, the amp I have no clue about, but for your purposes, it should be fine
>>52038756
Depends on where you are sitting
The center channel anchors dialogue for people who are out of the sweet spot. With just stereo, voices sound like they are coming from the speaker on their side, instead of the center.
For 1-3 people sitting in a tight group, you don't need a center channel.
What I do wonder is if your brain can separate the center channel from the stereo channels because they are coming from different locations. In that case a center channel would help you understand dialogue with background noise much easier, even if you were plum center with a perfect stereo image. Regardless, you can boost the center channel by like 2 dB and have loud dialogue without hearing loss when shit blows up.

ayy lmao. I used to be. It's good to keep friends in past jobs though amirite?
>>52043208
Thanks a lot for all the information. I truly do appreciate it. Merry Christmas my /g/ood sir.
The R-25C is the only center of the same series that "BestBuy" sells so i'm sure it's the matching one I believe.

Just bumping because legit advice
>tfw can hear screeching noise from my speakers when scrolling and when hard drive activity happens, and it didn't go away when I got an USB DAC
What do?
>>52046918
Get a new pc? It should in no case do that anymore after new dac
>>52046918
does it do the same on a different computer/laptop?
>>52046976
>>52046995
I connected my speakers/DAC to another PC and it also gave the same kind of noise. But when I connect my laptop the noise is gone.

Are you crazy?
>>52045952
this
>>52047006
Hmm, you should really head into some other forum, this is way over my head. Maybe there is no dac in your dac?
>>52043208
One more thing about power, reaching suitable listening levels which is about 80db is very easy. However if you're listening to highly dynamic music or movies then that extra power will be useful.
Basically I don't think you should be worrying about power too much unless you like to listen to shit loud.
>>52038863
>HORNâ„¢ speakers not good speakers
Am I on /g/?
>TFW got a pair of speakers for Christmas
So fucking much better than using integrated monitor audio. God damn.
And while I do have a set of Beyerdynamic DT770pro's, its awkward always having to wear them for decent audio.
It's not "audiophile" tier but I'm definitely happy, especially since I'm not retarded and don't think I can tell the difference between flak and 320mbps MP3

>>52046918
Get a DAC which has its own power supply and does not use USB. Optical for example. It sounds like terrible grounding issue.
>>52047391
Do you think connecting the USB DAC to an externally powered USB hub could solve the problem?
>>52047424
It could.
>>52047369
>don't think I can tell the difference between flak and 320mbps MP3
nobody can
>>52046918
Your computer is a source of RF noise. Ferrite coils for your speaker leads could help. They are functioning as an antenna for the produced RF noise.
>>52047436
I guess I'll try it.
>>52047456
But I'm using a USB DAC now. The signal is digital until it reaches the DAC, which is far away from my PC.
OP back from sleepy time.
>>52045952
What? Me no understand.
>>52046229
Those speakers get pretty similar to discount price at black friday. You should ask a manager if they can lower it to those prices again for you if you want. Before the month ends is probably your only opportunity though.
>>52047131
Cool. So amp is good, yes?
Good morning and happy christmas desu.
Merry Christmas /g/!
I need your help with this:
I want to connect my existing Creative speaker system (very old, subwoofer + 2 smaller speakers) with my rarely used JVC ux-g37.
(To play music over this system from my home server)
What would be the most efficient way to connect these two? Like, do I have to plug in the base of the stereo? Or can I wire the speakers just by themselves?
Also, how would you rate this system quality-wise?
Thanks, waiting for your suggestions
>>52049067
Amp is overkill as fuck unless you can get it for 200 bucks
Need minimalist black amp for speakers I just got for Christmas
speakers are two bookshelf mb42x
was looking at SMSL SA50, but would prefer one with less branding
All I have to offer is my wallpaper

>>52049067
I'm not from trumpstan. We don't have black Friday or discounts.
For $370 you could get a decent pair of active nearfield monitors. Anything with a 6" drive will be better than what you proposed. Then use the money you'd spend on the amp and receiver on stands and a small USB 2.0 audio interface.
Unless you really need surround for some weird reason there's no reason to not get studio grade gear.

What is a good upgrade for the amp? I just got $150 bucks for christmas to start from no budget but keep it reasonable

If you're not running into distortion, noise or frequency response issues then there's virtually no point to upgrade.

I guess you could plug the bare wires normally, then run a short length to some kind of female banana plug and disconnect it there every time.
