Post your Home Configs.
Show peeps what you have done to improve your home network.

>Pic related its my current home network

Also I've hit quite a roadblock
THe NAS is a N54 running XPEnology and the PFsence box is running on a i5.
I kinda wanted to make some VM's but the NAS isn't powerfull enough to do that.
But PFsence doesn't allow for much since it isn't a full BSD system what should I do ?

I would have posted my rack and 100TB server but manga makes me cringe so I won't.
Don't post that shit if you want to talk about servers.

nevermind, found out the answers to my questions.

Something odd must be fucking up if transferring small files works but large ones don't.

No idea for any quick fix, just have a look at logs and then try to start ruling things out. Can it be network related? Any extra switches on the way from the computer to server? Are you using WiFi that potentially shits itself when it has to do some actual work? Does it happen with different clients? Does your network support high-speed transfer in other applications, is Samba the only thing that fucks up?
>>
>>52036232
It's fucked. Install Gentoo.
>>
>>52036268
hahahahaha you fucking faggot. we don't accept your sort here!
>>
>>52036343
i don't think it has anything to do with my network since i'm using Ethernet for both my server and client. And i don't have another computer to test it with.

I'm thinking of buying a HP ProLiant Microserver Gen8 and some HDDs to build a NAS of. Which OS should I install? And what's the best file management (or whatever) software to do regular backups with?
>>
>>52036420
don't listen to that faggot
do you know how the fuck a single raid card could kill an entire array of SSDs? i'm legitimately intrigued on the details of this but the vid isn't out yet
>>
>>52036719
haven't asked slick. In general ltt servers make me cringe a bit, I mean they are cool but they are a company, they should just get proper super-micro stuff proper ssd;s not stuff they happen to get for free.
>>
Bored of Unix/Linux/Windows and want to try something different.

Are there any alternative operating systems that would be good for server use?
>>
>>52036413
That doesn't mean that it can't be a bad switch, a bad router, bad NIC, bad driver or simply some sort of fucked up configuration. First I'd suggest trying some other file transfer method that can handle the speed of Samba/your network, like NFS or maybe FTP. Make sure to use the same folder/storage device for the test. If this works you can pretty much rule out network or storage system issues and start fucking with Samba.

Of course, as the very first step you should try to read the Samba log and see if there is anything there indicating something going wrong and maybe go from that.
>>
We need more of these threads, also OP, what did you use to make your network graph? Seems like Visio, judging by the clipart objects..

I put this together as I am staying in the attic for the Holidays with my senpai and they would not oblige anything more permanent and start complaining that I am the cause of all their IT issues if I fuck around with it too long. The distance is too far for me to do it through wifi alone.

I was very sceptical of network powerline adapters but it's worked surprisingly well (although the speed is capped at 20mb/s it's more than I need). The router in the attic is in bridge mode, His printer shows up as a local one for me on my devices and my N.A.S shows up on his,

The only snag is I often have to renew the DHCP lease on my laptop/PC every few hours as it will stay connected but just lose internet connectivity, really odd behaviour but it doesnt happen often enough for me to troubleshoot it as I am not here often enough to figure it out. I figure it has something to do with the powerline/bridge set up.
