Anon, Linus Torvalds himself is happy with proprietary software running on top of his open sauce project.
So are many distros, perhaps most of them don't pursue GPL / Open Sauce - only strategies for their repositories.
Most just keep their base open sauce only, for obvious maintenance reasons.

The GTA04 can basically replace the entire function set of the rPi as well as run on a Li-Ion cell and there's a free driver that's been hacked together for the libretas that allows WiFi functions without the proprietary firmware.
