Piracy is only free if your time is worthless.

Doesn't make a lot of sense.

anon please
>>
>>52010255
Is there a problem.
>>
>>52010231
Nah it's correct. On phone atm but I'll explain it when I get home if /g/ hasn't wrapped it's head around the concept by then.

please

Anon, I'm getting really sick of your shit. This isn't kindergarten.

You bumped it. Well fucking done.

guise what's going on in this thread? :^)
>>
>>52010347
Your reasoning is definitely kindergarten tier, on par with your your spelling.
>>
OP's statement only makes sense if you have a pile of money sitting around.

Otherwise you will need to spend time earning money to buy whatever you want to buy.

how many hours will you have to work on average to be able to purchase the latest game ?
>>
>>52010352
>using the smiley with a carat nose
>>
>>52010359
he might be trying to imply that it's harder to go out of your way to illegally download software than it is to just buy it outright, which is only possibly true if you're a dumb kid who gets all his shit from public trackers and ddl sites.
>>
>>52010360
Pirating things does not take more time than buying.
>>
>>52010204
Takes less time to open a magnet link than it does to buy a Blu-ray
>>
>>52010360
If you have a full time job paying minimum wage, a sub music service is cheaper that looking for music, checking the quality, tagging it, etc every time you want to listen to something new. Then there's the issue of making everything accessible everywhere you go
>>
>>52010416
Oh and also the cost of paying for local storage
>>
>>52010416
>>52010429
>i was talking about music

lol
>>
>>52010457
Movies and Rv is the same. If you spend 1 hour a month on finding new music, downloading, tagging etc. that is already twice the price of sub music if you got an hours minumum wage instead
>>
>>52010488
You do realize you're posting on /g/, right? Go make your argument on /mu/ or explicitly specify you're discussing music. We talk about software here.
>>
>>52010416
ok thats nice, but OP and myself were talking about piracy, not about streaming services or in a specific topic of music.

I do agree with you streaming services offer great value for the money, essentially they have replaced the "I bought this cd this month" with "I use spotify" its still $100+ annually so might only
>>
>>52010510
Same thing with software if you add up the direct and indirect costs
>>
>>52010537
No.
>>
>>52010416
>cheaper that looking for music, checking the quality, tagging it, etc
I like how you threw in "etc"...as if there was more to it than that.
Also...I suggest you look into searching for "<artist name> discography"...you fucking moron.
A torrent can have thousands of songs and take very little time to download.
You would still have to search for the music even with a "sub music service" and deal with the inconvenience of either DRM or required network connectivity.

>>52010429
>paying for local storage
You mean paying to keep something forever? As opposed to depending on some shitty cloud & your network connectivity? You are a grade A cukling aren't you m8?

>>52010488
There is a massive flaw with your argument: most jobs don't let you work overtime.

Furthermore, that time being spent it probably time they're enjoying more than working at a minimum wage job. You may say "get a 2nd job", but to hell with that.
>>
>>52010554
each their own I guess.

downloading an entire discography is nice and all, but what I really want are a few songs I remember hearing on the radio or listening on itunes, not the entire collection of music from the artist.
places like what.cd might be properly tag, but everywhere else is a fucking mess, its a nightmare fixing that shit.

Again each their own, each have their pros and cons and you are free to go with whatever works for you best.
>>
>>52010552
Ok well let's start with photoshop. Let's start as somebody pirating it for the first time. That's a few hours of looking at torrent sites and working out which cracking method currently works, which release doesn't have a botnet in it, downloading it, blocking ip ranges and so on. Then you usually have to do it all again after some updates. You have most likely still gotten a botnet anyway regardless of people's comments on torrents. That's about $100 minimum wage and you are risking your computer being a botnet for ISIS
>>
>>52010372
>carat
>carrot

there you ho again
>>
>>52010705
You have no experience with pirating and everyone here does. You're not fooling anyone anon, the only one you're making fool of is yourself.
>>
once i spent like 4 hours (spanned across a few days) looking for a pirated book that only sold for $32.

I make 6 figures a year too.

I eventually found it 2 weeks ago and haven't even read it.

some people just like the thrill of the hunt.
>>
>>52010204
By your statement everyone on 4chan should be pirating 24/7.
>>
>>52010727
I'm an expert at pirating actually
>>
>>52010773
And it takes you an hour to find Photoshop torrent. Beautiful.
>>
>>52010705
> a few hours looking at torrent sites
Jesus, do you read at a pace of 5 WPM? Who honestly takes more than 5 minutes in finding a torrent for Photoshop of all things, a program that's not obscure by any means. Also, like >>52010727 said, you have no idea what you're talking about, you sound like my uncle spewing shit about physics without really understanding any of it.
>>
>>52010755
Not OP, but once you grow up a bit you realize just how few programs you do use on a consistent basis.

Even if I did buy all the programs that I use (not counting games) I would still be out less than $200 that includes the cost of the OS.

There are so many free and good alternatives to most things these days, I would donate money to see those projects going.
>>
>>52010605
You're implying you are forced to download all the songs in a torrent instead of just the ones you want. Are you a complete moron?
>>
>>52010787
I'm saying for somebody pirating photoshop for the first time, just going to Kat and choosing the one with the most seeders would be /g/ levels of retardness
>>
>>52010877
You are not fooling anyone.
>>
>>52010834
That just adds more bullshit steps I need to take.
Like I said earlier, something for everyone. You want to download music to your computer/phone go for it, other people would rather just stream.
>>
Bitch please i torrent from work so my piracy i even rewarded
>>
I've never been a fan of the "X is only free if your time is worthless" argument. The problem with this class of statements is that it assumes time is liquid -- that is, it can be readily converted into money. Many people cannot find jobs. Many people with jobs can only work a certain number of hours per day (no overtime options). With the rest of their time, it makes little sense to be able to ascribe an exact price to that time, if they are unable to simply work an extra hour at their job to gain an extra Y dollar/euros/whatever.

Also, piracy takes very, VERY little time.

>go to torrent tracker
>download from magnet link
>choose where you want to save the file

And then you just do something else while the file downloads.
>>
>>52010901
I bet you run Windows 7 black edition don't you?
>>
Pirate
>download a program
>apply crack
>using it
>no money spent

Buy
>buy program
>download it
>apply code to prove you bough it
>had to spend money

well memed OP
>>
>>52010932
>TFW I downloaded 35gb of shit from the wifi of the company in the office next door today
>>
>>52010961
Answer me this. If you consider yourself a torrent expect. What criteria do you use to determine whether a pirated version of a program you downloaded is riddled with botnet or not?
>>
Is describing something that's free as a waste of time the latest meme or are some people actually retarded enough to believe it?
>hurr linux free, durr must cost le time
>hurr pirating free, durr must cost le time
>hurr sex with gf free, durr must cost le time

By shitposting like this on 4chan you clearly show that your time is worthless, so why even make that kind of argument?
>>
>>52010945
Wow, you sure are stupid, you fucking tripfag.

>implying money is the basis of all value
>>
>all of the music they want to listen to is on spotify
how pleb can you get
>>
>>52010998
This worries me at times.

You will see the same software+crack torrent with like 8 different file sizes and none of them match the MD5/checksum
>>
>>52010972
Your OS doesn't have an App Store?

Modern os
>click buy button
>use app on you computer, phone, tablet, watch, tv whenever you want
>one check for updates for your entire OS and all apps

Piracy:
>guess at which torrent isn't going to give you a virus
>download it with a BitTorrent client correctly configured for optimal performance
>install it
>crack it
> see if it work. If not try again
> us it until an update breaks it and do the whole process again
> pirate an antivirus and do all above steps for it too
> all your apps update at different intervals and with seperate requests, making you look computer illiterate to anyone who has expertise at computer

Plus you probably pay for a seed box
>>
>>52011031

Within the context of "compared to free", money is the basis of all value.
>>
>>52011177
You're still to answer to >>52010998 and also your argument does not stand considering the person you're replying to does not have those problems you're having.
>>
>>52011177
>App Store?
Nobody will take you seriously now, OP.

Install Gentoo.
>>
>>52011177
>>guess at which torrent isn't going to give you a virus
Or you could just list torrents by chingliu and worry about nothing.
kek
>>
But it's quicker and easier to pirate
>>
>>52010998
As a verified computer expert, I now assume all closed source software from 3rd party sources to be ISIS botnets. When I used to be young and stupid though, I'd look at all releases of the latest version of a specific app. If it just needed a pirated key I'd download the app from the developer and run the keygen in a sandbox if I couldn't find a key posted in the comments. If the app requires cracking I'd look to see if it was rudimentary for me to crack myself. Otherwise it's start looking at as many different cracks as possible and reverse engineer the shortlist and see which one I like best
>>
>>52011455
So what you instead should have written in OP is "do not pirate; everything is a botnet".

Of course, you couldn't do that, because then everyone would see you for an idiot you are.

>verified computer expert

>Your OS doesn't have an App Store?
I use Windows and Android. On Android, I use F-Droid for about 90% of my applications. On Windows... nearly every good application is only available for download from the manufacturer (or by pirating). There is nothing good in the Windows store.

>to anyone who has expertise at computer

Not true if i pirate $100 worth of software
and it takes me an hour

I earn $26~ so that would be 3 hours i just made

You can't uncheck unwanted songs (albums) before downloading anymore using torrent???
Haven't used for a long time so really don't. Was a option when i used.
>>
>>52010705
>few hours
Are you 12
>>
Nah, you're just retarded. Pirating takes no more time than acquiring software through legitimate channels.
