I want to buy a RPi 2B and connect a hard drive to it.
I want it to be connected to my TV and run Kodi.
I also want it to store my music in the HD and make it accessible to all the PCs in my network.
Can this be done?
Also, RPi general thread.
Yes.

No
Perhaps in time.

le old /g/ memeroo
What kind of stuff can you do on python with this?
>>52008892
Yes

Anything and everything.
I imagine in a few years all of the people on /g/ that say "PC gaming is for children" are going to be on Raspberry Pi as their main primary PC.
Once they roll out a Pi with a faster cpu and like 3 or 4GB of ram, what more do you need out of a machine for webbrowsing, video watching, and programming? I'm sure you could already use a Pi as a "facebook machine," but only 512MB of ram is awful.
I'm imagining my setup in that future. Maybe I'll actually use a Pi 90% of the time and only boot up my big gaming PC when I want to play games.
For the love of God, your raspfags are the worst.
You can buy a full kit of a banana pi m1 for a little more than a rasp board and its a dual core a20 at 1 ghz and 1 gb ram.
And m3 is an awesome step up for a quad core cortex 7 with 2 gb ram.
My next board will either a radxa rock pro quad core a9 at 1.6 ghz and 2 gb of ram WITH 8gb nand flash memory.

>Can this be done?
Sure. Just run Plex Media Server or something similar. I dunno if Kodi does shit like that or not.
>>52010873
Do you have any idea what the raspberry Pi 2 is?
Fuck off with your banana trash.
>>52010873
Where can you buy the Banana Pi M3 Octa-core model? I'm really impressed with what I see

USB external hard drive... Duh. The damn thing runs Linux, not much you can't do.

they have 1GB of ram which is fine for browsing memebook

Once you've installed Kodibuntu, your files are on your private network.
Don't forget to check if nmbd et smbd are enabled and if iptable or firewalld accept samba on the network and you're good to go.
Kodibuntu is really easy to use. Plus, you can control it with yatze on your smartphone.

>a pi with a faster cpu and more ram
So pretty much an odroid?
It even has usb 3 and gigabit lan.

>odroid
fascinating. I never heard about this single-board computer before.
>>52009748
Absolutely fucking disgusting.
I used to own a Patriot Box Office, was pretty cool.
Been considering saving 200-300 bucks to build a passively cooled set-top box style HTPC.
Rasp pis are literally toys for hobbyists. They're not meant to be long term solutions.

yes but my main concern is USB and ethernet runs off same bus so its gonna be slow as fuck
like 1 megabyte a second
>>52011876
Why is that a concern?
I will be the only one using it.
I'm going to either watch stuff on kodi or access the music from one of my PCs
>>52011876
What if you aren't using any USB devices? Is it still that slow?
>>52011303
Or alternatively if you need more power, you could just use a laptop.
That's what I did.
My desktop is only used for gaming, everything else is done on my laptop.
>>52009748
What the fuck is going on with those video adapters?
