Just ordered the MSI R9 390. Here's to hoping it lasts me seven years.

you should now get a freesync monitor with ips
>>
>>52006842
or you wait a year for HDR 10bit freesync monitor
>>
>>52006876
>>52006909
I was looking at IPS last year before I purchased the LCD. They ether had shitty hz ratings or were bananas expensive. There is never a good time to buy a video card. I'll always be waiting for "next year."
>>
>>52006926
current LG offers all deliver 9ms colored response time and 75hz and some are freesync enabled you might check them out if you're interested.. they also introduced some new panels on ces

http://wccftech.com/amd-freesync-ces2016/

if you wait a bit further, you will see HDR monitors which will deliver new dimensions in terms of contrast

>I only just bought this monitor last year. I'm going to keep it a few more.
>>
>>52007030
okay. enjoy your color shifts
>>
>free sync

people actually care about this? screen tearing is not an issue on 144hz
>>
>>52007263
yes it is.
im using 1ms tn freesync 144Hz and if i dont use freesync the screen tearing is still visible

>>52006926
make sure you check the freesync range on those IPS monitors. a lot of the 1440p ones dont go to 144Hz with freesync on
>>
i have a hard time believing you were gaming at 60 fps 1080p with a 4870, that card was showing it's age only a year after it came out and didn't even support dx11 like the 5000 and 6000 series did.

either way, a 390 isn't going to last you 7 years. it's overvolted hot garbage of a chip that already has an exceedingly high failure rate.
>>
>4870
>the only single exhaust case fan breaks down
>accidentally touch the case and notice its hot
>check temps
>117c

Holy fuck, and the card was still fine after that.

>future proofing
if you bought a midrange card you could afford to upgrade every 3 years.
>>
I used a 4850 for like six or seven years myself. I got a new computer last month and bought a GTX 950.

I'm sure OP got a lot of mileage out of his 4870, just as I did with my 4850.

I really just HAD to upgrade because shit like Witcher 3 and Fallout 4 wouldn't even boot. My screen would just go black for half a second and eject me to the desktop whenever I started either executable. Just like how OP said he couldn't get the new Doom to boot on his machine, the bane of our old video cards is just these new AAA game titles.

It's funny. Aside from gaming, my everyday computing is IDENTICAL to how it was on my old Core2Duo machine with the 4850.

got a hd 6670 right now
looking at a 270 , is this a good deal for $90?

OP here. I bought the best I could afford at the time. That said, mid range x2 already costs more than one beefy card that lasts 7 years. I'm still just impressed it lasted this long.

Whatever dude.

I simply do not replace things until I need to. Anyone bringing up freesync is not changing my life or my mind.

I'm still using my HD5850. Too bad this high memory trend on gaymen is here.
>>
>Here's to hoping it lasts me seven years

It could last you ten, five or one.

It all depends on how you treat that shit, OC, if you get temperatures of over 85C all the freaking time, if devs decide "well fuck all of this, let's have everyone require a new GPU" or what's more likely, the opposite and just rebranding over and over because consoles are already shitting themselves this early (which unless it's intentional, will keep games running fine at least 5 years from now at decent settings under the same hardware, with the same shittier graphics as last decade).

>Too bad this high memory trend on gaymen is here.
they finally use good enough textures and you complain about it? why?
>>
>>52013639
3 years from now you will be able to buy a card twice as powerful as a 390 for half the price.
Buying cheap now and upgrading earlier is always more economical. Especially now where 14nm is around the corner.
>>
>>52015184
>3 years
no you won't
>>
>>52015261
7790 launched 3 3/4 years after the 4850/4870. Easily twice the power for half the price.

If you keep wasting your money on delusional future proofing you are going to stay a poorfag forever.
