What's the acceptable temps for an i5 6600 skylake processor? Everyone seems to be running the k edition, so finding info for 6600 is really hard.

I've been monitoring mine for the past few days, and it generally idles 25-30 celsius. Regular load it's 45-55, but heavy load can go as high as 70. Highest I've ever seen is 72, that was playing ArmA3 while doing light rendering set to below normal. It's not overclocked, so running 3.3ghz. Room temperature is about 20-25c

Is this normal, or should I get a better heatsink/take a look at the paste?

Jesus christ, anon. Those temperatures are way too high. Disassemble the whole PC and start again right now.

If you're using the stock Intel cooler, that seems about average. If you're really concerned get a better cooler; idle temps probably won't drop much but load temps could by up to 20C.
>>
Ignore >>51997569
70c is perfectly fine for a temperature ceiling.
As long as your CPU sits under 90-95c at the absolute highest, you're fine.
Hell, even micro second spikes of 99c isn't unbearable for the CPU, so long as it isn't constant.

25-30c idle is completely normal. Literally you will not get it lower unless you live in a very cold country. 45-55 under typical load is completely normal. 70 ceiling is fine.

>>51997606
Don't listen to this shitfuck. He's trying to trick you into frying your CPU. People on this board are such assholes.

>trolling op into burning his cpu
stay classy, /g/
>>
>>51997602
It's stock cooler, yeah. I replaced the paste, though. The shit that was on the cooler was so dry I thought it was pads at first.
>>51997606
Jesus christ, it can handle that high? Are you sure about that? I heard they tried to reduce overall temps for the skylake series.

I should add that the 70 spikes are not constant, just that I've seen them more than once while doing cpu intensive stuff. Regular load being running something like ArmA3 without doing much else on the pc.
>>
>>51997676
Yup. Though I ought to add, seeing spikes of up to 99c is when I run IBT at 6+GB of RAM, which is on a 4790k which I've since been told you're not meant to use IBT with Haswell.

Anywhoo, yeah, if you're OC'ing, getting split second spikes of up to 99c and typical max at 70c is perfectly fine. Seeing an absolute top of 70c won't hurt your CPU at all.
>>
>>51997542
k and non-k are basically the same thing, except that you can't overclock the non-k variant. (Not that it's impossible, but YOU can't).

Temperatures are perfectly normal for a stock cooler. High temperatures won't kill your CPU, it will only age faster. Unless it's at 100% load a lot of the time, chances are that you'll upgrade to something better before it dies to age anyway.

If you want it to run more healthily cool AND more quiet, there's never something wrong with a 212 Evo, it's cheap and effective.
>>
I'm not sure about Skylake, but 100C max is seemingly normal for Intel CPUs. That said, if it starts pushing past 75C you might wanna look into getting a better heatsink and fan.
>>
>>51997736
Seems high as hell, though, but I know the auto shutdown is something insane like 135c, so it's plausible.

>>51997756
>>51997780
Alright, I'll leave it as is for now and keep monitoring the temps. I looked into the 212 Evo, and that thing is cheap as hell, so I might look further into it after christmas. Maybe get a couple of top fans as well to make the case interior colder overall.

Thanks for the help, anons.
>>
>>51997853
>auto shutdown is something insane like 135c
It'll throttle long before that. Unless your GPU right beneath it is literally on fire, you won't reach 135°C.
>>
>>51997542
Replace the stock cooler with an aftermarket heatsink (thermalright, noctua etc) and order and replace the thermal paste on the CPU.
>>
>>51997606
This guy is bullshitting, don;t listen to him

Your cpu is way too hot, it's almost as hot as an AMD housefire.

You need to delid or reapply the paste. also consider watercooling otherwise you cpu will fry and you will have to ask to get another, i don;t think whoever bought it for you would buy you another one after you took such bad care of your first one
>>
>>51997542
Skylake CPUs will start to throttle at 80C and thermal shutdown at 95~100C

You are absolutely fine.
>>
>/g/ being this retarded

70c on cpu is totally fine
>>
>>51900000
>>
>>51997542
I get similar with a 6500, so you should be okay.
>>
Installing Gentoo can lower your temps.
>>
>>51997542
Stock coolers always do this to me regardless of CPU model. Get yourself a Hyper 212 EVO.
>>
>>51997542
My 6600 runs on 19 - 23 celsius in Idle and up to 50 in full load for 15 minutes.
>Scythe Mugen 4
>Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound
>>
>>51997542
I got a 6500. even maxed out I've never seen it passed 52c with the stock cooler and paste. something wrong with your shit bro.
>>
>>51997542
45-55 should be your full load temp, but 70 wont damage it so you should be fine
>>
>>51997542

There is a lot of scare mongering when it comes to cpu temps.

Processors are safe up to their tj max. That's why it's in place.
If you're not hitting your tj max in full load you are fine.
However, giving yourself headroom is never a bad thing.
>>
>>52002403
that runs pretty cool even on load. stock heatsink?
>>
>>52002403
Bullshit. Your room temp must be cold. Turn the heater on you poor fuck
>>
>>52002583
Indeed. Default IHS. The Mugen 4 is a bit an overkill cooler for my locked non-k i5. The stock cooler would good enough for locked i5 cpu's.
>>
>>52002599
My room temp is approximately 20 celsius. Turning on the heater is not necessary. It's not cold outdoors and I suppose my house is better isolated than your quod faggot.

dayum! I'm hoping the summer intel retail edge will give us the 6600.
>>
i have 90 celsius in certain games, is it ok?
>>
>>51998148
Water cooling isn't cooler than air. I don't know why this gets repeated on /g/ so often when it's outright false.
>>
>>51997542

That's pathetic. My 6600 doesn't even reach half that at load.
>>
>>52002952
It's too high. Better renew your thermal paste.
>>
>>52003064

ok

You can tell a board is bad if you can't tell who is trolling and who is not
>>
>>52003221
Better yet a better heatsink + fan.
>>
>>52003292

Are you retarded? Do you need help?
>>
Stop rendering - why are you dumb faggots always "rendering" - you don't have anything to render, fuck you.
>>
>>52003675
Half of 72°C is -137°C. I find hard to believe that you CPU runs at half the temperature of his.
>>
>>52004665

What? Oh.

Yeah, no. I was talking like 30C or something. Jesus dude.
