>ARM
When will this meme fucking die already?
>>
cannot recommend. you can't use your own kernel if you want fan regulation and graphics acceleration only works with android. fan can be quite noisy too
>>
>>51997541
You can install Linux distros or Android to do whatever you want. You can also use it just like the Raspberry Pi 2.
>>51997587
What about its performance in emulation?
>>
>>51997587
At least they're stuck with 3.8 and not 3.4 like Allwinner.
>>
>>51997580
you are fucking deluded, dumbass.
>>
>>51997619
ARM is a piece of shit. Give me one good reason to use an ARM CPU over an x86 CPU beside power consumption for a mini-pc (which is almost the same now).
>>
I would think this is a good solution for old folks (it's just like your phone, mom) and also for emulation, as OP said. The USB 3.0 I/O is really, really nice.
>>
>>51997664
It costs a lot less and doesn't get as hot.
>>
>>51997664
its cheaper.
thats about all i can think of, really.

ARM will ultimately die as Intel gets lower transistor size.

by the time intel goes in 10nm range ARM will be history.
>>
>>51999381
Not really, intel only wants $21 for their quad-core Z8300 cherry trail Atom CPU and requires no active cooling whatsoever.

>>

THIS. Once we get 10nm atoms, arm is fucking dead.

doesn't matter, it still has an arm processor so its immediately garbage.
>>
>>51999556
seems a bit less powerful than a z3740 but has GPU that has 3 time more execution units.
thats pretty impressive.

that would put it on par with an intel HD3000 for the GPU
>>
>>51999955
it has a gpu!? 0_o

Holy shit, I thought intel was a huge fucking jew, how are they giving these away for 21 bucks a piece? There must be a catch.
>>

It's server time?

How do you think it displays graphics!?

>Holy shit, I thought intel was a huge fucking jew, how are they giving these away for 21 bucks a piece? There must be a catch.
Eh not really. Still that's $21 just for the CPU. You could buy $100 windows 8 tablets last xmas did you miss that completely? Sadly, all those who make atom devices that are not tablets are pretty big jews though. Intel compute stick costs ~$120 even though it costs half as much to make compared to the $100 tablets.
>>
>>52000025
yea, i wish they would compete with other mobile GPUs tho.

i mean they aren't bad, an intel Z3740 (that i own) is on par with a tegra 4 GPU wise.

it could play any android game smoothly with no problem.

the thing is, it runs windows, and running windows games on that is a pain in the ass.

resent games will not be playable unless you go for 800x600 and turn everything off.

the only game that was surprisingly playable happens to be my favorite game, Unreal Tournament 2004.

runs at full res with everything high between 50 and 80 fps !

pretty sweet and very playable.

>>52000117
Intel jew the retails not the OEM.
anything that is directly meant for retail will be stupidly expensive, while giving almost free stuff to the manufacturers.
thats how they keep their domination.
>>
>>51997587
I have an xu4 and the fan is so motherfucking loud that I can't stand it.

I've got an entire lackrack with managed switches and low power servers, and that odroid is louder than anything else.

I run jessie on mine, and I have a fan-control script.
>>
>>52000214
They jew everyone with thier mobile "core" processors for example.
>>
>>52000239
just get a new fan and get over it.

What's the point if the device you connect is limited to SATA speed? Also, you save an unnecessary conversion.
>>
>>52000745
>>52000785
With sata I have to add my own power supply, a niche one at that. Also cases for the HDDs.
WIth usb3 I just have to buy usb3 drives that are as fast and even cost less than just raw drives here.
>>
>>51997467
Where's the SATA connector?

You can also use Emmc and sd cards.

would this odroid be able to handle 10 bit mkv files?

Microsoft and Apple are both trying to kill the desktop platform and make everyone use mobile devices only. x86 will die out and we will see ARM only personal devices
>>
>>52002137
Both windows phones and the ipad pro were a flop. Now intel has cherry trail (as cheap as $21) and is working on goldmont cores. On top of this AMD will move to 14nm lithography and there is a chance they could enter the mobile market. ARM is dying, don't delude yourself.

Something might replace x86 CPUs some day but it sure as hell won't be ARM.
>>
>>52002137
>>52002137
Who knows what happens in the future but at the moment there is no high performance ARM chips and no software for ARM.
