What should I do with my raspberry pi?
>>
Sell it as soon as possible,
better and cheaper versions will keep coming while your rpi diminishes in value every passing day.

I want to buy a raspberry pi 2 b+ next week
Got any cool projects?
>>

Download torrents with it.

Getting a BananaPi for Christmas (dat WiFi) and I'll hook it up to my 1TB eHDD and I'm good.

Came here to say this, left satisfied

Considering somebody beat me to it: OSMC or a openhab server
>>
Works pretty well for a mailserver.
>>
can it run mint? my dad needs a new computer just for browsing forums and watching youtube.
>>
>>51984849
That may be a good idea. I don't have a use for the SATA port, I've got an external one that'll work better.

I'll use my internal HDD for games.

Create and host your own little website! We need to return back to the distributed web, and stop depending on on centralized services! Run a IRC or XMPP server on it! Together we can restore the former glory of the web! And don't forget to write black on white, minimal CSS HTML pages, with as little JavaScript as possible.

You must be really young, huh? I've had a 256MB laptop, a 1GB phone and stuff like that. What are you, a millenial?

I run gentoo on mine and use it for:

1. Providing tor access to other hosts in the LAN
2. Serving NFS shares on connected HDs
3. As a seedbox with rutorrent for a webinterface on lighttpd

I was expecting more performance wise: if I was in you I'd buy an A20 Orange PI (they are cheaper and have more ports as well) though.

Also, the A20 is on the back of the board: this is retarded since you can't use any heatsink.

There's also the H3 OrangePI PC (the top one) that outperforms the rest of the boards together but right now there's only one kernel available and proprietary binaries everywhere. Still my favourite board, tho - got it for 16€ incl shipping on aliexpress.
>>
>>51985044
Oh and I also use it to share audio to the LAN and as a visualizer.
>>
>>51985045
But as a torrentbox it'd work, right?
>>
>>51984892
They're $35 open source computers. What can't you do with them? I made a mini laptop out of one. Go back to reddit.
>>
>>51985100
I'd get an Olimex board since they are built like tanks and the fastest networking-wise (some models have gigabit as well)
>>
>>51985108
Doing this right now but with a bananapi. what did you use for your battery, how did you make a case, and how do you shut the screen off when you close it?
>>
>>51985127
OK. I've only got a bananapi on hand (Christmas) but I think I'll be okay. My home connection is a big bottleneck (fastest download is around 600 kB/s)
>>
>>51985301
Oh, then youll be allright. Have fun with your banana

get a home server, a touchscreen monitor that supports linux, a nice set of speakers and an amp

The Ethernet port is just a shitty USB port, you'll pull and push 5Mb max, it's a terrible idea unless your connection is garbage.
>>
Normally people have a specific need and then buy a product to fulfill that need. You on the other hand are so stupid that you purchased a product before having an actual need for it.

In this case, the best use for it is to shove it down your esophagus so that you choke to death.
>>
>>51985938

Thinking of this, what ARM boards DO have a dedicated networking interface?

Here are some ideas:

VPN server
Mail and/or webmail server
Web server
Torrent / Usenet box
HTPC
Tor entry node
NAS (SAMBA on LAN / sshfs over WAN)
Self hosted storage (OwnCloud, optionally with CardDAV, CalDAV)
Music server (mpd)
Audio conferencing (Mumble)
>>
Is running your own cloud service a meme? OwnCloud is any good?

I heard western digital is selling RPis with owncloud and a 2.5" HDD.
>>
>>51984649
Is it small enough to install in my colon?
>>
>>51987263
It's slow, so don't use it if you plan to use it for large file transfers. For small files it works OK though, but resort to SSH SFTP (like sshfs, for example) for bigger files.
>>
create a bomb/detonator kits and sell to saudi sponsors.
>>
>>51984549
install znc
install openvpn
attach nas for backups and muh movies/tv shows

>>
>>51988293
Hell, I still have my original model B with 256MB, and that runs OSMC just fine.

I also have a separate sd card with Raspbian and PirateBox, which I just use as a local server that I can stage small things on.

>get an RPi Model B, 256 MB
>want to set it up as an NAS or media server of some sort with my external 1TB drive
>realize I'm too lazy to actually learn how to set that up, password protect it, and use it

And now I'm stuck with my desktop that said drive is attached to on another floor of the house with nothing but my SSD'd Chinkpad as I recover from having an internal organ removed. Truly this is the face of hubris.
>>
>>51989480
RPi is super shit at NAS so nothing was lost.
>>
Use it as a porn image viewer or a hentai manga/doujin viewer site similar to e-hentai and ExHentai. Is that even hard to do to make a site like ExHentai? How many SSDs or HDDs would I need anyway?
>>
>>51989588
Except all of this time spent without catching up on the hours of backlogged shows I could be watching while I recover. I realize the USB and Ethernet controller are shared, but I'm sure it could at least handle streaming my Cambodian Papyrus Scratchings.
