Get the old Ambrosia Software games. They're shareware and they were Mac exclusive. Make sure you get Ares and the Escape Velocity series at least.
>>
install mint, breathe some life into that thing
>>
>>51954438
Actually tho

It's a piece of fucking garbage, mate. I should know, spent a significant period of time trying to make them useful. They on PowerPC, require your disk to be formatted with an Apple Partition Map (APM), and need an HFS+ boot partition. I think there's a Lubuntu build that will run on them, which will save you some headaches. Also, they wont boot from USB, except maybe with a ridiculous amount of effort, so don't waste your time and just burn an install CD.

In the end it wont be able to do much. YouTube videos look like a slideshow on it, and it doesn't support Flash.
>>
>>51954339

Sell it on Craigslist for $600.
>>
>>51955769
The last PowerPC build of Mint was released in 2011. You pretty much can't breathe life into an iBook G4.

This, it's a pretty much a paper weight.

>>51955897
But also this, they're not worth shit and I doubt you could get even $30 from eBay, but you might be able to pretty much scam some hipster fuck if you say it's some super rare old mac and put it on Craigslist for like $200.

>>51954339
Arch
Record an album on that old garageband
Take it to the beach and throw it like a frisbee
>>
install debian, the UNIVERSAL OPERATING SYSTEMâ„¢

it has builds for everything, including powerpc

you can also try gentoo if you're feeling frisky
>>
I'll give you a $15 Amazon gift card for it.
>>
>>51956930
And do what with it, considering you end up with a system that is shittier than a $5 rPi?

>So I inherited this thing and don't know what to do with it.
It's a laptop.
really, if you don't know, just sell it on eBay or whatever

I wish I still had my old G3 iBook that my brother gave me (my niece broke it).
was my main machine at one point in like 2008 (trying to watch Youtube on it was the worst)
used it for IRC and I'd run Renoise (1.9) and MilkyTracker on it, was fucking great for that (Renoise choked a bit if you ran too many effects at once, and video update was slow, but it was pretty usable; Milky worked like a charm)
had some emulators and the lot
also, porn (limiting factor was the 10GB hard drive, which requires the machine to be stripped completely to be replaced, even though just about every other component that you'd expect to be replaceable on a laptop was easily replaceable)
used Fink for the usual Unixy packages, and had WindowMaker installed as my WM because why not

tried installing Ubuntu on it, but my machine had 192MB of RAM, said fuck that and proceeded to go from 10.1 to 10.4 incrementally to see what actually worked fine
10.4 ran much better than I could have ever hoped, even if it wasn't fast at all.
found out the hard way that there wasn't any torrent software that supported 10.2, that was awful

>>51956699
huh, the G4 iBook is one of the cheaper models on eBay, shit goes for like $50 working
and it's common as fuck

>>51957284
worst bit is, this is almost true
CPU in the iBook is faster (a lot actually), but overall, it's going to be a comparably slow experience.
also, the GPU the Pi is quite a bit better

dunno if OSX's display is even hardware accelerated on these machines, it wasn't on my iBook (8MB ATI Rage video)
>>
>>51957383
>dunno if OSX's display is even hardware accelerated on these machines
If it was, it sure as shit wont be when you install Linux.
>>
what a drag.

I was hoping I had finally acquired a mac computer of some sort to finish the trinity.

fuck having one os
>>
Anyone able to reccomend some kind of netbook? My eeepc hinge broked a while ago. Something X86 so I can put a real OS on it would be best. Specs don't matter much. Enough to run a ligh Linux distro and lightweight programs.
>>
>>51954339
Roll it back to 10.3 and put a shitload of abandonware on it, use it as an X terminal, do computer shit with it. If you can't find a use for it, sell it to someone who can.
>>
>>51957646
You did, though.

It's not going to be a magnificent web surfer, but you can still find a purpose for it depending on your use case.
>>
>>51957667
why do you think I am asking you guys? what old shit could I put on it?

and what the fuck is an X terminal?
>>
>>51957719
macintoshgarden.org has a metric shit ton of abandonware mostly for OS 9 and before, OS X 10.4 is capable of booting a copy of OS 9 in the background to run them

browse around, there's a ton of shit; games, audio production software, productivity shit, programming shit

>and what the fuck is an X terminal?
a graphical terminal running an X server, you can use the mac to run graphical applications on a Linux/UNIX server as if they were running on your local hardware, might even solve your potential web surfing problems
>>
I have a bunch of these lying around. Unless you're a /g/entooman and do typical neckbeard shit, you're not gonna have any use for it.

Now, had it been a Macbook from around 2009, then you'd have a very capable machine. You can install a solid state drive, up the RAM, and have a machine that can run El Capitan better than a new, store-bought non-Retina Macbook Pro for much less.
>>
>>51955914
debian has an image for that
>>
>>51957892
what neckbeard shit

also I've been wondering, what is the thinkpad version of something able to run a mac?
>>
>>51958017
A Hackintosh'd Thinkpad, I'd imagine.

Either that, or an older Core 2 Duo Macbook or Macbook Pro, from when swapping out components was easy. See >>51957892.
