Buyer's remorse thread? Buyer's remorse thread.

This shit can barely run gta 5 with high textures, should have bought a r9 380x instead ;_;

Last month i bought new 290 Vapor X with the same price GTX 960 and R9 380.
Last stock though after searching around for two weeks.

Bought an i7 4790k for $250.

Feels overkill, should have picked up an i5 4690k for $180...

my 970 runs GTAV at almost everything maxed.

I bought a 960 and have no troubles running GTA5 at 1080p, literally have the same model.

I only bought it because it was on sale for $160 and I needed to trade in my 750ti.

Why do so many people have a huge boner for EVGA? I've owned two of their cards as well as Asus and Gigabyte cards. I'm not particularly impressed with them.

>>51923734

they had some good deals during the last black friday weekend

I have the same exact card, the 4GB version I got for $160 on sale.
I run GTAV on the highest settings at 1080p and haven't dropped below 40FPS.
You have no idea what you're talking about, as YouTube videos have the 2GB version running GTAV just as well as the 4GB version too.

Got a 4690 non-K for $210, then a GTX 970 (evga sc acx 2.0) for $280 prior to black friday. I should have gotten a 6600 and a 390 instead for the same prices just weeks after.

People aren't really this dumb are they? Do they think new drivers are going to magically unlock some potential in their old tech?
>>
>>51924233
No, but I guess they were dumb enough to trust the company they have been dumping money into for years to not screw them over when a new generation of cards gets released, how stupid of them
>>
>>51924266
Driver packages are still hardware dependant. 780 owners aren't getting driver release versions for the 980.
>>
>>51924335
No shit, so then why did the packages they release cripple their performance? They did it as planned obsolescence to get people to upgrade to Maxwell from Kepler literally a year after Kepler was released
>>
>>51923932
but anon i'm happy with my gtx 950
>>
>>51924392
Why were they updating their perfecrly working gpu's. Nvidia knew these consumers wanted more so they just helped them makeup their mind to upgrade their hardware. Pretry easy to roll back to working drivers and not complain about having the newest numbers.

This damn thing.
Had the slowing down problem and now the speeds I'm getting after the fix are about 100MB/s slower than they should be.

There are pretty good sales there, but I'll wait till January or February before upgrading.

I only like them for the customer service and warranty. But I'd buy a Gigabyte over an EVGA if I was building a computer for someone in my family. Gigabyte Waterforce completely BTFO of EVGA's Hybrid since it has more power phases and a heatsink block that covers the VRAM and the MOSFETs.
I really regret buying two 980 Ti Hybrids now that the Waterforce is out.

directX 12 support tho. R9 380 would've been better
>>
>>51926881
The difference between stock 290 and 380 is huge. At least 15 fps in all benchmark. Both card have the same dx12 support. 380 just have a few improvement in tesellation and 4k vsr support.
I did consider 380 for lower power usage and cfx in the future without changing psu. But at the same price 290 is better though.

Dont, else you will be in a thread like this in a year.

Now, fresh build/upgrade yea, 390 is better than 970. But as an upgrade to the 970? Not worth it. Wait for the next gen.

I got my friend on a near identical system and his 390 is completly unoticeable in difference without watching framerates directly. We are talking about 5fps, maybe ten max at playable settings for both cards.
>>
>>51921402
I wish I had waited a bit longer and got a 390X instead of 980, would've saved $100.

Got it when the witcher 3 was redeemable with any purchase of 970 or 980 card. Fucking gigabyte setup their website to redeem keys 3 days afterwards so I was not eligible for it.

Yes, and no. Headsets being shit were backed by actual data you could find in nearly every headfi forum.

I oc'ed core 1100 and memory 1500.
From benchmark that i compare online it is on par with 390x.

>you will always be waiting

I am considering getting a new video card, have a 1440p IPS on the way and currently my 7850hd isn't doing the greatest with FO4. Can't decide if I want to get a 390x, or go with something cheaper and wait for new cards this year, or just wait completely and stick with this.

Thing is last night I saw it hit 93C max with cpuid hardware monitor playing FO4. I could really use a program that gives me a temp history graph so I can see if it was a minor spike or consistent. From what I saw it seemed to average around 70 mostly.
>>
>tfw being happy with my 390 and fx 8350
>>
>>51928648
speccy can do that.
r9 390 if you don't plan on overmodding it. make sure your CPU is good for fallout, the engine is past it's age limit.
>>
>>51929040
Really? I had speccy but it dissapeared at some point, probably when swapping to shitblows 10. Never updated it in awhile but I don't recall seeing temp history but I'll give it another try.

CPU is an fx6300 clocked at 4ghz, doesn't really ever get over around 60% in game and averages 30%.

I could go for nvidia but it seems like the current options aren't worth it. Pascal might be good, but I'll have to wait on it.
>>
>>51923548
Technology jumps (HBM, HBM2) are rare as fuck. The best way to buy a card which will last 10 years is to buy one generation after such a technology jump.
>>
>>51929237
well for high end NVIDIA is better but for midrange or budget you can't go wrong on AMD. the r9 390 for example beats the 970 for the same price.
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/GPU15/1248
your CPU might be not really enough for FO4.
though i haven't tested FO4 yet and won't until at least the next sale.
>>
>>51929321
Thats the thing, the 390 with 8gb looks pretty nice and would do fine for 1080p on my TV and could probably still handle the new 1440p great. But for 300+ there might be much better cards to grab out in some 3-6 months making it a hard choice to shell out that much.

I guess I could always get the 390, sell the 7850 and then sell the 390 once newer cards are out. Might turn out relatively even.
>>
>>51928648

I'll be the one to disappoint you and say that you aren't going to like FO4 at 1440p. My 3570K at 4.3 Ghz hits max usage with that old junky game engine, and with my 980 ti I probably average 60-80 fps.
>>
>>51929748
I don't plan to play FO4 at 1440p, I am honestly not using the game as a benchmark since its a piece of shit, but how laggy and hot its getting my GPU is a concern. Since I will have a 1080p TV and 1200 monitor also connected I can always swap to one of them depending on which game I am playing.

CPU is a bit of a concern, but it generally never seems like an issue. Might do a new build after getting a new gpu if it seems necessary but for now I mostly feel the 7850 is my main issue.
