In a bash script when you have two variables $a and $b where both are strings. Can you put them together like

$a+$b to get ONE string?

Can you add it to for example a web adress like:

?

Where do I learn more about this?

Uhm, honestly I'm not sure what you're trying to do, but for example if you wanted to take user input for $a and $b, ie 11 and 22 after you grab input you can write c=$"$a $b" and $C will expand to become those two variables

read -p "what is a? " a
read -p "what is b? " b
apc=$"$a $b"
echo 1>&2 "$c"
>>
>>51912547
It's for work and they only buy pre-made.
>>
>>51912593
>>51912470
I'm sorry apc should just be c I'm a little tired.

for loops try something like this

while read -p "This is a variable? " a

do

if ... then
do something
fi

done

echo 1>&2 "\nEOF received"
echo 1>&2 "Exiting"
exit 0

Do all devices lose connectivity to router at the same time? or just one? How many devices connected to router? just wireless?

So you're saying while not connected to your router you can still ping your printer? is it connected over wifi?

It's a Microsoft WMO 1.1a I think. Aren't they hyped up to be quite an accurate mouse?
>>
>>51912746
No. Both the PC and the printer are connected through patch cables but the PC uses a powerline adapter due to there being 2 floors between the router and PC.

For some reason, the powerline adapters would occasionally not work and the PC loses connection to the internet and whatnot.

When I try to remotely connect to the router's address or ping it it won't work.

Despite all this, I can still ping to the network printer that is connected through the exact same router. The router I can't ping to.

>but I wonder how it compares to my Mionix 7000
Probably not very favourably. Microsoft have defined the minimum of what a mouse should be but nothing more. It's totally standard, no frills. It was launched at a time when standard no frills was hailed as the way forward and a lot of people have good memories from that time.

I keep Microsoft mouse and a Microsoft life keyboard around as backups in case my normal ones kick the bucket, they're pretty decent but have been surpassed by better things.

Depends on the motherboard and how you're using the RAM. If you have two sticks in dual channel mode your CPU can talk to both of them at the same time, meaning it can access twice the amount of memory in a given time frame. This isn't really a problem for most applications but some programmes really like fast memory access.

I have Asus ROG G751, i7 and 16 gigs of memory (don't flame, I need a laptop because of my life situation) - everything was fine but the November Windows 10 update made my hard disk to read and write constantly.

I/O is always at 1-5% and I hear the hard disk running - but on stable OS there shouldn't be ANY extra reads or writes when running almost idle. I use Spybot Anti-Beacon to block spy features and use my own hosts file to block ad/malware servers as well.

In the past I have ran various linuxes, irix and solaris and they run very silently.

>disk access 1-5% all the time

>MsMpEng.exe 3,000+

>system and compressed memory 300+
>explorer 4,000+

Ever since I got my first cheap "gaming" PC (i5 4460, 280x) I have been wondering something about some titles. A question I had that does not just relate to performance on PCs but consoles as well as of late.

I know some people are happier with higher framerates and all, but when your game fluctuates between 30 and 60fps depending on where you look at with mediocre hardware, doesn't it seem more logical to try to put some optional framerate cap in there?

In my case the only way to play some current games without having framerates go real crazy is to either lower the quality settings so it stays above 60fps on demanding places and activate vsync or basically go fuck myself. Hell I'd play quite a few titles at even 30fps if these were stable. The minimum FPS cap on Catalyst is 55 and the crimson driver profiles aren't doing jack shit for me.

Now for the question: Is there anything else I can do to cap that framerate, and if there's another way, would it work with vsync enabled?

>>Can I remove one RAM module and still keep dual-channel with 3 sticks?
>no. each channel has to have the same amount of RAM for it to run dual channel.

I thought i read somewhere that some motherboards can recognize the dual channel with two modules, and if there is a third it will one the single module in single channel.

>your game fluctuates between 30 and 60fps depending on where you look at with mediocre hardware
VSYNC, turn it off.

>doesn't it seem more logical to try to put some optional framerate cap in there?
not really. it can still be smooth and playable down to 30 fps. having the fps fluctuate wont do anything unless the user can actually notice the difference in smoothness (depends on the game also).

>Now for the question: Is there anything else I can do to cap that framerate, and if there's another way, would it work with vsync enabled?
some games let you set a cap through a console command.

vsync doesnt cap FPS per say, it just locks the fps and refresh rate, and if the fps dips below your refreshrate, you can get severe FPS drops aswell as it is practially cutting your FPS in half. triple buffering help prevent this to a small degree.

also vsync is just to prevent screen tearing.

>>51915854
or you could just tell the shitposts to ask in here then ignore their thread. there is no need to bump this.

>>51915820

The green is the solder mask. Once the circuit itself has been printed, a mask is applied (kind of like liquid tipex) over the top to prevent solder from bridging connections where it shouldn't. It's green, blue or brown because that's the cheapest to buy.

sup /g/,
my dorm finally got internet from the university i'm at.
However the gateway our dorm uses does shitty traffic shaping making it unusable for anything other than basic web browsing. (this works pretty well and fast though)
I tried tunneling to my server, however UDP connection are being filtered (packets go out, but not in, as it seems (nmap just says the ports are filtered. all of them.)
and TCP just gets traffic shaped to all hell again, so when i run my tunnel through TCP, it's the same shit.
Is there anything i can do? or am i permanantly fucked? Also, how does the web traffic get through so fast?
Streaming video like youtube works at 1080p flawlessly, web page loading is fast as shit too. HTTP downloads are slow as shit again. are they doing deep packet inspection?
>>
>>51915910
I'm not a lawyer and I'm not going to pretend to be, so seek real legal advice if this is actually something that might be a real issue.
As far as I know both the UK and EU don't recognize software patents so they won't enforce software patents granted in the US.
There's one caveat: You can't release your game in the US. If you do the UK will enforce any laws you break over there including patent laws. That's not a patent law in itself, just general international law that would also apply to someone who murdered a person in the US and hopped on a plane to Europe.
>>
>>51916400
I imagine they apply traffic shaping on some ports and not others. If you can tunnel traffic through port 80 (or, perhaps, whatever port your university uses for internal email) you might get workable speeds.
>>
>>51916400
also, the only thing i want is to be able to get things from my server fast, so i might be able to get the speeds up by using lots of connections, since it seems to limit per connection. What protocol can do this effortlessly though? FTP with 200 separate connections seems pointless and inefficient.
>>
>>51916498
yeah, was a good (even though also mad) idea; tried it, same problem: max speed through the tunnel is the max speed i get from one tcp connection without the tunnel. same on port 443; youtube seems to use peer to peer of sorts, so that might be the reason it worked so well...
>>
>>51916498
my question now would be this then: is there a protocol that utilizes multiple connections for a single transfer? might actually look into writing one myself if there isn't... it'd be just some I/O operations

If enabled, then yes. If you want to disable it, you have to go into the BIOS.
If you have stability issues with an unlocked Intel or AMD CPU while overclocking, then it's best to turn off Turboboost and see if you get any improvement.

And is there any way, if your cooling can handle it, to manually set the cpu to turbo boost? Like overclocking, but only within the maximum allowed by turbo boost?

say I'm running an application that benefits more from raw clock speed than number of cores, it would be nice to be able to disable a couple cores and make the other two run faster
>>
>>51916864
>it would be nice to be able to disable a couple cores and make the other two run faster
I doubt you'll see any benefit to doing that. There is no real headroom gained from turning off multiple cores, and I think Haswell actually prevents you from activating Turbo if it detects at least one core being disabled.

The server will be on 24/7 and be used by multiple computers and tablets in my household. I figured that ECC RAM is a given due to how many times files will be accessed from the server at any given time. We're looking to get rid of the last two bulky desktops we have in the house that are acting as mini servers for movies and shows and have already experienced file deterioration on at least two videos. We'd like to mitigate the risk of losing files.

I'm probably going to get a Lian Li micro ATX case with 10+ HDD bays to go along with it.

can someone explain why one side of my ear buds always goes out? Without fail, the right ear bud will always become more quiet and then stop working all-together after usage. Is there a technical reason behind this, or am I just abusive to my ear buds?
>>
>>51917662
>Is it because one card can't use the other card's memory or some shit?
Yes.
When you think about it, it makes perfect sense. Each GPU has to render half the screen. Imagine if you had a mesh that filled the screen with a texture, and the texture was only stored on one GPU. The left side of the screen is drawn almost instantly, but the right side of the screen takes almost a millisecond because it has to fetch the entire thing from the other GPU. Now imagine this with thousands of different textures. You'd have a situation where some objects get drawn really quickly, while others get drawn slower than a software renderer, all based on which part of the screen it projects to.
>>
>>51917980

So I should probably invest in a backup server? Would a server running a RAID5 array not be enough?

We have about 12 3-4TB HDDs in the house, so we might be able to split them into different arrays or different servers.

RAID is not backup. If a file is corrupted, it would be copied across the RAID array and you would still have a corrup file.
RAID is for preventing data loss if a whole drive fails so you can just plug in a new one.

I suppose ECC would make sense in your case.

and yes, a separate backup server is the only option if you want to make absolutely sure you do not lose data.

But this hasn't helped me at all or I'm not disabling the sharing properly. I'm just doing -D BUILD_SHARED_LIBS=FALSE but i've also tried it as OFF, and NO. I'm not really sure how to use CMake properly.

I went to the CMake documentation but it just says

>Global flag to cause add_library to create shared libraries if on.
>If present and true, this will cause all libraries to be built shared unless the library was explicitly added as a static library. This variable is often added to projects as an OPTION so that each user of a project can decide if they want to build the project using shared or static libraries.

and doesn't actually say how to turn it on and off.

I've been given a laptop that appears to be fucked and I've got permission for me and one of my friends (an electrical engineer) to scavenge it for parts. Out of curtsey I'd like to wipe the hard drive before any of my friends get to it, how would I do that?

For anyone interested, it turns on for a few seconds and only stays on if you plug it in, the lights will turn on to indicate that the hard drive is working and the fan will work, but the screen appears to not work and no part of the keyboard lights up, plugging the laptop into a TV via a HTMI lead does nothing.

So in short, I either want to fix it or I suppose I want to bootnuke it without any evidence that the keyboard works. I do not own an external keyboard.

Also... are there any parts I should be looking out for while scavenging?

public static void main(String args[])

IDE recommendations? I'm uninstalling IntelliJ.

OK both gpus work alone and together I have a monitor plugged into both when I run my computer most of the time and the I wanted to get sli and it did not work.

I have an N66u that has recently started giving me trouble. I have tried updating the firmware (3.0.0.4.376_3861-g11c21b3 -> 3.0.0.4.378_9383-gc6c2b9d) and it has only gotten worse.

Whenever I am browsing the internet the router stops responding to requests (including login page requests via 192.168.1.1 for 5-10 seconds) this happens repeatedly. If I open new firefox tabs it's not uncommon to have to wait for this turd to start responding again.

ping -t www.google.com show frequent periods of "Request timed out".

ping -t 192.168.1.1 never shows any interruption

Internal ICMP_Echo tool on the router shows high packet loss to google over 99 pings (in some cases 25%).

If anyone has ideas I'd love to hear them.

you have two monitors, one plugged into each gpu? plug both into the same gpu and try the sli bridge.

Can someone explain warez/ddl to someone who has used BitTorrent and IRC/XDCC all their life? I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around how to safely use premium link generators/services like rapidleech and bypassing wait times, bandwidth limits etc.

The specific software I'm trying to get isn't anywhere to be found on my usual trackers or bots, and I feel like sifting through shady links and getting link-shortener/adfly loops is fucking awful.

I'm aware of warez-bb and tehparadox, but those are the only "warez" sites I know of, and they upload to all those retarded hosts instead of something sensible because they just have to have that 0.05USD/view

Oh, I guess both notations work for arrays? My Java is a bit rusty.

Out of curiosity, can you post a screenshot of your build configurations?

I have tried that.

did you try one card in the first pci-e slot and then the same card in the second pci-e slot (not both cards at the same time) ?

your sli bridge might be broken
>>
>>51918813
I have done that and I have tried 3 sli bridges.

it works for me, sorry that I can't help you but I don't know Java more than what it shares with C and C++

So I went to PC world today to look at monitors.

The Mid-range IPS had no noticeable difference to any of the others. I tried contrast, color range and motion. Literally every one was exactly the same as the £120 LED that was right next to it.

For some reason the all-in-one HP's for about £600 and the Macs and MS Tablets all had great screens. Really vivid.

What the hell /g/, I was told that IPS was good?

What's the best montor for image quality under £200? Pretty tempted to get the Dell one.

So I tried loading up my IntelliJ configuration and everything else, couldn't even start it. Shows a little disc next to my cursor if I click anything on the menu, so I opened task manager, closed program, uninstalled, currently reinstalling the Java SDK (1.8), and Android SDK. Just going with a clean slate.

Going to give Eclipse a try.

Trust me, don't. You'll regret it later on if you get a sub-par $200 monitor. Bump it up a lil to $300 and you'd be mighty happy.

It's quite possible that IntelliJ requires a library to run that code and that it can't find that library.

If you make a new project - just a hello world, can you run that with an output?
