Yes, but make sure to convert them straight off the original CD and not somebody else's FLAC rip you downloaded off the Internet, for who knows what kind of hardware it was compiled on, the bits might be misaligned or not contain the right Cflags for your sound card.

that is, when decompressed (played back), the data is identical to the original input (before conversion to flac)
you can think of it like a zip or rar file, only optimized specifically for music
strictly speaking, wav is a container that supports a couple compressed formats as well, but in current usage is pretty much only used to store uncompressed lpcm
