My friend is looking for an encrypted harddrive to hold government secrets on. So it has to be NSA proof. Now that truecypt is dead and bitlocker is owned by MS who is owned by the federal government he is looking to buy an encrypted device.
can anyone suggest some good ones? right now he is looking at
http://www.ironkey.com/en-US/encrypted-storage-drives/h100.html
and
http://datalocker.com/
the data locker ones look like bull shit because they use a four digit code. that can be brute forced in like 5 min...? thanks
only use physical transfer like a USB to fill the device then bury it in the fucking desert and burn the USB. tada hidden stuff forever
>NSA proof
>government secrets
Which government?
use regular hardware and encrypt the files

He should be using dmcrypt-LUKS for that kind of thing. It's Linux only, but if you are talking about stuff that dirty, it is the only option.
If you have data that sensitive, it should never be handled with proprietary software, ever, and dmcrypt is currently the most trusted encryption software out there.

what about for windows?
>>51905147
You should know better than to use Windows for this
>>51905147
Did you read my post? If you have data that sensitive, it is absolutely imperitive that you do not use Windows at all to handle or interact with the data in any way, as there is no way of knowing what it is logging.
Furthermore, as I said, LUKS (Linux Unified Key System) is Linux only, which is ideal since you need to use Linux to handle that data securely.
That's the kind of thing where any sort of data leak through proprietary software such as Windows will potentially fuck your asshole.
You have no other option than to use dmcrypt-luks on Linux in your current situation, anon. Sucks that you have to learn it, but it is what's necessary.

Just use ROT13
>>51905189
You don't have to learn linux. Just get Tomb, it will manage the luks-dm container for you.

Tomb uses SHA-1, which was broken years ago.
Just use veracrypt to hide your porn on Windows. It's being actively maintained and is backwards compatible with truecrypt volumes.
>>51905536
It's also a closed source botnet

>using wangblows to manage sensitive data
Tell 007 that he's too retarded to keep a secret.
>>51905554
It's open source?
