I have 4 Panasonic 3400mah batteries and I would like to swap those with the ones in my laptop battery. Has anybody done this? Also can someone help me figure out time increase with new batteries? Pic related.

How did you figure that?

I've been toying with the idea as well. After a lot of googling I came to the conclusion that not all battery controllers will accept new cells, some just throw all their toys out of the pram and scream that things are wrong when you plug them in.

If you do decide to try it, make sure you have a compatible backup battery in case you've got one that doesn't work. Replacement batteries are pretty cheap on eBay.

Good call I didn't think of that. But there must be some parameter that you can change in the system. But if I only get an hour increase its not worth it in my opinion.

A 29.3% increase in capacity means a 29.3% increase in longevity

4*0.293=1.172

I don't get where you got the 4 from. I'm not doubting you I just can't make my brain understand this for some reason

As far as I could discern it's in the actual battery controlling chip on the battery pack. Your computer doesn't have the ability to reset that in all cases. Some laptops don't have those chips, instead going with a different solution on the mainboard.

I went over the other anons math, it's pretty simple really. Divide the number of hours by the number of watt hours of the old pack, multiply by the new. It's worth noting that if the battery pack has aged at all then it's definitely not storing the number printed on it. Lithium batteries degrade alarmingly fast when present with the conditions found in most laptops.

Not him but from your picture. >>51899111

OK got it. Yea an extra hour charge isn't worth messing with all that. I just have no idea what to do with these 18650 cells. I do t really have a use and they have hardly been used

Oh, that's right, I googled a picture with the intent of attaching it to this post but then I completely forgot like the airhead I am.

Like I said, if your battery is old then chances are that it's storing significantly less than the advertised amount. There may be battery health software that might give you a better idea though.

That's my pack. Computer is about 6 months old. I was thinking dell probably just put some cheap batteries in there but what they got seems pretty good. If I could get an extra 2 hours or more I'd do it.

Wait what? You work with electronics and schematics and yet you needed help to extrapolate the battery life? Please explain to me why I shouldn't pity your customers.
