So I just bought a 960 and am having buyer's remorse.

Should I just return this, and splurge some extra cash on the 970? Will it be THAT much bigger of a difference? With the 970 last me ages?
>>
I have a 960 4GB PNY, works just fine for me. All games at max.

800x600?

OP here,

I'm still on 1080p, and probably will be for a while.

I'm hoping to play some good ol' Witcher 3. My current card is a 7850 that can barely handle it on mediumish.
>>
>>51887240

no

I got the g1 gaming 4gb for about half the price of a 970 so im not complaining
>>
>>51887266
960 is barely 1 tier up. You should've upgraded to a used R9 290 or 390. That would've been a huge boost.

970 would've given you a buyers remorse as well given it won't do well in next gen DX12 games.
>>
>>51887307
I wanted to cross over to the green side. After generations of AMD, I feel like going back to nVidia.
>>
>>51887330
The only path to nvidia is the 980 ti. Thats where nvidia beats AMD right now. Every other price point, AMD has better card.
>>
>>51887414
Really? I've heard nothing but how good price/performance is for the 970.
>>
>>51887427
390 will approach 980 tier in DX12 games too. For DX11 games, it will beat 970 8/10.

Same with 380 vs 960 games.

>My current card is a 7850
That was my past card until it died last week ;_;

Replaced it with a gtx 950 and it runs everything i play at 1080p, no regrets.
>>
>>51887629
So 960 should suffice then.

I'm not exactly a rich man ;_;
>>
>>51887725
If you were smart, you'd get a 7970 for ~100.

That would beat 960 and would be roughly $100 cheaper.
>>
>>51887528
But the 380 consumes so much power
>>
>>51887725
I don't plan on upgrading from 1080p or installing spyware10 for dx12 though, that's why i bought it.
>>
>>51887810
~200w vs ~120w on load

80w shouldn't make a difference even if you stress the GPU 100% of the time 24/7 for a year. The difference wouldn't be that much at all.
>>
So should I return the 960 and get the 970?

I mean.. I'm looking at benchmarks, and fuck, the 970 is pretty beast.

Although, I only have a 500w PSU. Would that be an issue?
>>

>>
>>51887868
No don't support the scam that is the 970. Either stay with your 960 or get a 390
>>
>>51887868
970 would probably need 600w PSU
>>
>>51888703
Guess I'll just stick with the 960.

Maybe by Q3 2016, there'll be a Pascal TI card out that I can just jump on.

Kek, even 980 is fine with 500 watts.
>>
>>51889280
I usually go above my PSU's requirements in case power spikes happen. I use a 500w power supply with a gtx 960.
>>
I have a 4GB 960. 3 monitor setup (1080), no major issues running games on one of them at decent to high settings. I didn't really pay for mine tho, lord praise Amazon for believing literally anything a customer tells them.

"What is "sage"?
Entering "sage" (by itself) into the [Options] field while replying will cause the thread not to bump to the top of the page. Contrary to popular belief, a sage is not a downvote, and should not be used as one. "sage-bombing" or announcing that you've saged a thread may result in a ban."

I shilled abit and got a strix 370 2gb for 130usd. I regret not getting a 950 even though all i play is cs:go and older games and i can max'em out all the way. Also fuck crimsons stuttering.
>>
never buy a 960 class card brand new current generation.

the only exception is if they make a Ti variant that closes in on the x70 card for a good price.
>>
>>51887178
>So I just bought a 960 and am having buyer's remorse.

Why?

What are you trying to do with it?
>>
>>51887267
Liar.

The 960 is a fine card but it will drop below 30 fps in several demanding games if you push everything to the right at 1080p.

You will be able to play it just fine with a balanced setting.

If you don't want to fool around with tweaking you have two basic options.

>next-highest preset at 1080p
>highest preset (hairworks off) at 1600x900

But it is worth the time to go and adjust each setting individually to your taste. You are a PC gamer now, act like one.
>>
>>51889280
>>51888703
>>51887868

Depends on the number of amps supplied to the PCI-E power connector. Should be good for the 960 through 980, but going above 200 watts you should check first.
>>
>>51890667
And just to be sure I just ran Tomb Raider at 1080p with everything completely maxed out and here is my result

Minimum FPS: 22.0
Maximum FPS: 44.7
Average FPS: 32.2

With 2x Xeon x5650 CPUs, which are not even fully utilized by the game so there is no bottleneck.

However this example is rather stupid since you can turn off TressFX and use FXAA instead of 4x MSAA and you will get steady 60 fps. But still, the 960 is not a "max everything" GPU at 1080p.

zero problems.
great cheap video card

Any thoughts on 390 vs 390x? Also, is it insane to try to drive a 390(x) with an SFX form factor PSU and a slim case?

I'm trying to build a console-ish gaming PC that's hooked up to a TV and looks at home sitting alongside home theater electronics and cases that can take a typical ATX PSU just don't fit the bill.

The card's price for performance is perfectly fine. The card currently sits at running games at med-high settings at 60 fps, with how slowly the games industry is pumping out games worth playing I think you'll be fine for the time being. Is there any other component in your computer worth upgrading? You may be able to save that 120$ towards that.
>>
>>51887178
Like the other anon, I just have to ask why you have buyers remorse. Is it underperforming enough to affect your enjoyment of games, or are you just letting memes and epeen get in the way of enjoying your graphics?
If you want epeen wait until the next chipset comes out in a few months and sell your card to a friend or something, fuck. Nobody but you will care what your benchmark fps at 4k resolution is except literally you.

>>
>>51891168
At 180$ the 960 is great for the price though.
>>
>>51890850
This.

I mean you could max all settings on one. You'd just get 19-28 fps. Might as well buy a ps4 at that point if you're gaming. At least you will have something optimized for the price
>>
>>51890850
>>51887178
This is true but depends on games you playin. I bought it and i max everything fullhd with 100fps plus. On the other hand I play games like war thunder, csgo, dota2 and mortal combat... for me it will last for 3-4 years totally

With a little bit of tuning you can easily surpass the PS4 with a 960. The GPU is nearly all the way to maxing games like The Phantom Pain, the PS4 isn't even close.

This.

390 is often 20-50 dollars less than a 970 and is a better card.

Nvidia was my first really good card and I like it for that. But unless you are going into crazy spending, AMD beats them out.

All 28nm GPUs are obsolete, you should wait for glorious 14/16nm.
>>
>>51887868
Nah 500W is sufficient.
Running the 970 strix memcard at 1550MHz, runs perfect and crushes 1080p

You guys realize there's no point in getting the 960 as a budget card now that the 950 is out right?

First half of 2016 will see Pascal and Arctic Islands.
Don't buy anything 28nm unless you get a very good deal or have a very good reason.

>>51887868
Ignore those AMD shills. 500w is more than enough for gtx 970

The 960 is a bad card unless you really need the h.265 or whatever it is encoder (Nvidia jews you for that - the 970 and 980 don't have it (unsure about 980ti and titan)).

I got mine with a 430w psu, fully functional. Also a i7 4th gen.

So much amd marketeers here. In almost any real life game benchmarks a 960 outperform any of the non expensive same tier amd equipments.

>>
>>51887178
If you have the money why not? If it will force you to spend less on something else don't worry about it.

Will it last ages? Not really. It will hold up longer than previous generations because direct 12 has a pretty big performance boost over 11.

The 970 will last longer. I have a 980 SC that I OC to 1400mhz stably. I like it. Hoping it'll last me at least until 2020.
>>
Does everyone play at 1080p?

My monitor is 1080 but I like to shitpost here while gaming so I play window mode at 1600x900.
