There's really no other place to discuss consumer technology, and a board split is just plain unrealistic. However, the amount of spoonfeeding going on in tech support threads is just incredible.
There's nothing that makes me more bitter than seeing a thread I made or am interested in get bumped off of the board for some shitty X vs. Y thread or gaming PC rate thread whose questions could be answered with a quick google search.

Threads should never be deleted based on what they devolve into NOR based on what they started as, but as the sum of both. If it starts as a tech thread and devolves into shitposting, it can produce OC. At the very least, it's useful to let people shitpost here and come out refreshed for other more serious threads.
Just because a thread starts out as shitposting doesn't mean it won't devolve into 100% serious high-end technology discussion with high-quality sources and information being exchanged. In fact, the rate at which this happens is hilariously high on 4chan as a whole.

- Consumer Technology, which inherits the /g/ board code, cellphone shilling threads, unboxing threads, OS threads, and the undesirable (but hardly deniable) tech support role
and
- Programming & Computer Science, which would be a nice place between /diy/, /sci/, and here. It would take things like the DPT. My personal fear is that such a board would become pretentious, like /sci/.
I have no idea which one would be home for networking threads, discussion about retro-computing. Ideally, there'd be three boards:
(Consumer technology, Programming&Comp. Sci., and Technology [everything not in the other two]), but a three-way board split is even less probable than a two-way.
