The best I could find on google was that the average pencil holds enough graphite to draw a line about 35 miles long or to write roughly 45,000 words.
35 miles long would be 184800 feet which is 429 square feet
One standard sheet of 8 1/2 x 11 inch sheet of A4 paper is 0.65 square feet
So one pencil could effectively cover roughly 660 sheets of paper so obviously you're going to run out of paper first
Now you'd just have to figure out the best paper to pencil ratio for 900 dollars and what the actual cost of a pencil and paper is but you could figuer that out after you figure out how much you need because you could probably get a deal buying in bulk

As somebody who owns a near-mint 1st generation Ipad, it works fine. It feels slow but that's probably just from getting used to newer tech. Some apps lag a little on it and the latest iOS it can run is 5 iirc, but if somebody used it just to read I could see them being happy with that. The battery on it though is insane, I could get 18 hours of non-stop usage out of it with one charge. If I wasn't using it it could idle for months, not even joking about that one.
