New guts thread. Post dem guts.
>you will never know the amount of pain it is to cut old computer case sheet metal with a sawzall because you're out of dremel tips and need to graft in a power supply.
be glad you don't know.

when I can get used, probably scratch&dent cases for free from a friend that does scrap metal for a living?
you simply must be joking.
also, sleeper machines are pretty neat if the case allows for ample airflow as this one does.

Anon from before asking about cpu fan. I decided to get a new fan for 20 clans. Cheapest one they had. Finally finished re assembling the machine, with only 2 screws not in lol. Pretty good in that regard. It really was like lego. Now though, is the main thing. Lego doesnt burn up or break if you assemble it wrong. I looked up the motherboard manual and put in everything in its proper place, but i can never not have worry or doubt.

I doubt i can expect an accurate respinse from the pic attached, but does it look good?
>>
>>51852305
On the bottom left, there's a floppy power cable going into something that might be a fan header. That probably shouldn't be there.

I feel its a waste/annoying/confusing that, apparently, psus have more cable by default? Makes me feel something is not getting enough power.

yes it would wreck the MB, what do you expect to happen, it's a floppy power cable.

Yeah that would have been a short circuit from the fan supply to ground. You don't want any more cables going from the power supply to the motherboard apart from the 24-pin on the right and the 4-pin at the top left.

I can't see any more obvious faults from that blurry mess and rats nest of cables.

Eh, not much you can do without going full retard and shortening the cables.

I prefer the C3 since it hides more of that shit, but after shipping it's a bit pricy for a HTPC.

What else can it be? Would a disconected cd drive be the issue? i dont see how, it worked before without one

Heres what bugs me

Back in January, i bought a cd for a new album from a band i like. The cd drive did not open. So i figured the thing is broken. I remove it, and the cable it was attached to the mb. I plan to get a new one, but go on the web first. Or rather, i would if the thing dodnt turn on and off like it does now. Long story short i fix it by attaching the ribbon cable back in but not the cd drive, nut at the cost of a new bios screen start up, and reduced video game experince. I noticed it with tf2, and then dx hr, games i remembered felt a different way before that shit happened.

I am not going to touch this anymore. My friend is going to look at it, and hopefully fux it.

If not, can i attach the hard drive to a laptop and back up my shit?
>>
>>51853229
>can i attach the hard drive to a laptop and back up my shit?
Probably not, few laptops have bays for extra drives. With some kind of USB-SATA adapter, sure

Or just hook it up to any desktop computer

Anyone have a piece of tech or anything in their PC that they ALWAYS carry from build to build? Mine would be my CPU cooler. Thermaltake Frio Extreme. Bought it for $90 from Microcenter when I was in a pinch. Handled my FX-6300 @ 4.9ghz, my FX-9370 @ 4.8ghz, and now my current i5-4690k @ 4.4ghz. It will soon handle my Zen based build. (whenever it fucking releases).

Also my Samsung 120gb 840 (non pro).

Until they're broken or otherwise unusable, I will cherish them always.

Older guts before I got my r9 390. This was my 290 with morpheous cooler. Capable of passively cooling an overvolted r9 290.

>Just been too lazy to move the cooler to my 390.

They still look so badass and "super computer" in looks.
>>

>>
>>51855465

Depends.

Old SGI and SUN/Sparc cases look awesome, but if you're removing perfectly good hardware to replace with your own than you should really safeguard it somewhere where it won't get damaged.

Also know that you're likely going to have to do a lot of drilling/cutting to get things like decent airflow or even the ability to mount aftermarket coolers since the mobo tray won't have holes in it and there won't be any places for fans.
